Not sure if you all heard but Brian Russell, the President of Bryston, passed away unexpectedly. I don't know him personally but I know he had a deep passion for his work and his Bryston family.

Thats terrible to hear, everyone in the Byrston family has our condolences.

Condolences to the Bryston Team and family.

Phil: Does that mean there will never be a Bryston speaker?

Brian: I'd like to use the phrase never say never, but I can't honestly say we're thinking of coming out with a Bryston speaker. It's certainly something that there's a number of people in the company that have an interest in whether we do it or not. I don't know.

Hi Folks - odd you should ask as I am in the middle of building some reference speakers for myself:

Its going to be a 3-way Active speaker - about 4 feet tall with two 8 inch woofers - two 3.5 cone mids and 1- tweeter.
Using a DSP electronic crossover and comparing that to a modified 10B analog crossover

What’s frightening is how AWESOME those model T’s look!!

Those model A’s look great too. Love the black woofers.

I never take my grills off the m60ti. I don’t like the black dust caps over the white woofer. Too busy.

Figured I’d post this question here in the quasi Bryston Thread.

The Mini Ais a three way with a 1” tweet a 3 “ mid and an 8” woofer. Rated at 8 ohms.

Then a Mini T is 1” tweet , 5.25 “ mid 8” woofer at 4 ohms.

The m5hp is closer in spec to mini t other than the 8” woofer. With the 6.5 HP driver of m5 why does it co e out at 8 ohms not 4? Or are the m5 hp 6.5 woofer individually 8 ohm and then used in parallel they are 4 ohms? But that doesn’t explain m60 hp at 6 ohms.

What am I missing here? Bryston woofers have more or larger voice coils in the 8” at 4 ohms?

Regarding the M5 impedance from Ian:

"To stay within the technical definition for nominal impedance, it is a 6.25 ohm speaker but since the 5 ohm low point is at a higher frequency than the normal, which is normally below 100 Hz, I went with 8 ohms. From a practical point of view we are mainly concerned with if it will operate safely attached to an 8 ohm receiver. We got away from the old 6 ohm ratings we used to have on some speakers as it was proving just too confusing."

Makes sense. Thanks. Hard to explain that every customer I guess. I suspect your average consumer doesn’t want to be put off by “ ohms “ etc. Most people probably want to plug and play.

Average customer er probably doesn’t know that that the ohms aren’t constant either and dip and dive while playing.

Most receivers or integrateds work with 4 ohm loads as it is anyway. At least from what I’ve seen.

Yes, Kodiak, you're exactly right about the average consumer.

They indeed do work particularly for just stereo. My entry mid-level Onk for example is equivalent to an ADA-1000-2 for stereo with every passive Axiom speaker I've tried. Multi-channel is a different story. The ADA-1000 really puts out.

With the above quote in mind, would something similar hold true for m22? Is it in actual measured world a 6 ohm speaker?

Is the m22 also “ naturally attenuated “ like the tower mid range woofers are?
