Is it worth buying a dvd player in 2020? Most multimedia content is provided through apple TVs and whatever else... so, do you get better sound with dvd?

Lots of speakers from many

There is no doubt audio content on blu ray is much higher quality than netflix, amazon and the like. I don't know about apple tv.

When I want the full home theater experience, none of the streaming I've tried has competed with actual discs. One thing I didn't mention when I was bringing up Apple TV+ on another post is that I've had weird panning of audio on several programs I've watched on my Apple TV. Sometimes the dialogue moves around for no reason, but so far I've only noticed it with Apple TV+ specific content. I haven't noticed it when using the Hulu, Amazon Prime, or HBO Max apps on the Apple TV. Makes me wonder what they're doing with their mixing. Sorry, weird tangent.

I’d say yes, maybe yes, bc it can double as a pretty good CD player too or even just a digital transport to outboard DAc as well if you’ve got lots of physical cds you want to play.

I’d buy one for watching concerts with the best sound possible.

Bc it can play everything from blu ray to audio cds it could lighten the black box load on your audio rack maybe.

Edit: more of a practical opinion then an experience one but when I’m more flush with $$ I’d like to have one to do double duty.

The Blueray format through HDMI/I2S {I squared S} is easiest HDMI is a Sony/Phillips TM. the latter can be produced by any other for audio without video codecs more high end territory production wise.
At the moment those give the full benefits DSD through ATMOS DTSX
It's the norm for most players now due to copy wright. Artists need our money to create. So it is a good universal plug for everything HDMI.

Is this a real question? Dvd?

The answer is yes, but with a 4K bluray player that also does netflix with HDR scaling. Then you get the full benefit of whatever way you consume content.

Panasonic has some nice players. They replaced oppo as the current flagship player.

Definately get yourself a good BR player. As Trevor noted, the panny's are good and not expensive. Streaming is convenient, but sound / video quality can't really compete with a nicely mastered 4K BR.

I have simular feelings about buying CD's, verse downloaded MP3's. Sometimes I hear a song I like, then try to find the CD. It does not exist, only thing I can get is a download. Every friggin time, sofar, the download sucks. Amazon is getting horrible about this. Seems they make more money selling you downloads, so you can't find the CD's or BluRays.

Yes Trevor, this is a real question! I have over 100 DVDs in a house with no DVD player...lol everything is downloaded and streamed... netflixed, apple tv etc. dominates our world! After some searches i've learned i need a 4K ultra DVD player with streaming abilities, right?
