Trying to see if this post will work.

Came across this thread about the new HDMI 2.1 chips on major new AVRs (2020?). All bugged. No firmware fix possible.

I would love to know the root cause of this defect. I doubt we will ever find out.

Just something in the hardware chip, but it sounds like it is limited to the 4k/120 hz output. Using the 4k/60hz default output is fine. This will likely only matter more for console gamers.
The workaround is to use eARC from the source to the tv back to the AVR for sound processing instead of the reverse.

I'm wondering how many people will look at this who bought these AVRs recently and might put them up used for sale.
I'm going to start watching the boards for deals.

The 3700 is less on amazon than the 3600. Just put one in. Totally fine.

Should clarify, none of the features the bug affects are required by the client. Or really anyone.... No content.

IMO anyone who is looking for PS5 or Xbox 8K or 4K/120&240hz processing should be bypassing the avr directly to display to avoid hanshake problems anyways.

I'm not a fan of this idea, since my TV is a 25' HDMI cable away from my devices. I'd rather just have one HDMI cable going to the TV rather than two different one going to the TV, then one going back to the AVR for the Xbox Series X's audio. And that's if I just end up with the Series X. I'll simply wait for a pre-pro/AVR that is proven to do what it needs to. I'm also not sure what gives you confidence that eARC implementation will be consistent and headache-free.

I have read about various issues with eARC. People who connect and then something happens and all they get is black screen, cant' get it to work again, sound issues, tv not detecting and sending the sound, whatever. I would try it but might be a bit dubious until i see it working consistently.

For our purposes we don't do gaming and since the bug seems to only affect the 4k/120hz not the 4k/60hz, it won't concern me for our purposes with those affected AVRs.

From what I understand the use of 4k/60hz is completely fine for gaming.

Im sure an HDfury will be released to resolve this issue for the hardcore enthusiasts.

Early adopters always suffers a little for the latest and greatest.
