Hi, I have a few questions about ep500/600.

I have owned an EP500 V2 since 2007. the first amp failed under warranty after 4 years. the second amp started acting up after it was 7 years old ( popping and volume changes ). The second amp quit in its 10th year. I was able to pickup a used EP600 V3 cheaper than purchasing a replacement amp from Axiom.

1. How well would the EP600 V3amp work in the EP500 V2 ? the EP600 just overpowers the room visually although it sounds very good. the physical dimensions of the amp plate are similar, although it would need to be rotated. I am concerned that the dsp is set to match the volume of the cabinet.

2. Is there a manual available to download for the EP600 v3 ? V3 is unique in that it doesnt have an rca input although I was provided with a 1/4 " to rca which goes in the combo XLR/1/4" jack.

3. Is there any information available about repairing the EP500 amp myself ? I do have some experience and equipment in this area. Looking for things like schematics and typical failures.

4. Is there a demand for the driver out of the EP500/EP600 ? I see they are listed the same on the website. I could be willing to sell one of the sub drivers to try to recoup some of my expenses.

I still love my axioms after all these years and understand electronics eventually fail. the detail crispness of my M22 and the definition of the bass from the EP500/600 is great. I was surprised to read online comments that dont hold them in as such a high regard as when I was looking to purchase. I think I will keep browsing used offerings and maybe bid on some tower speakers.

1. It won't work. The DSP filter coefficients are different between the two.

2. The manual doesn't contain anything technical that will help you with a repair.

3. No schematics. Typical failures would be something only Axiom knows.

4. The 500, 600, 800 all use the same driver. As for a demand, I've seen them on eBay and Canack and US audio marts.

Trade them in for v4. I have an 800, twin 600s and four 500s (and twin 125s) in various woods.

Nope . still tickin' eek Thanks for your reply

I got as far as opening the EP500 up and thinking I could switch the DSP board over and be fine. but pretty much got sidetracked with other stuff. The EP600 sounds better , it is just too big for the room.

Oh good. You're still alive. smile

Oh shit yeah. I can see why you got side-tracked. I particularly like the drill decoration. It shows you have a hard and soft side to you. smile

Hmmm...what speakers are those? It looks like Ian had one too many and decided to stick two M22s together.

Yea it is stacked m22 . When I had an appt the neighbors didnt appreciate my taste in music so there was a second set in the bedroom. Almost scored some used m60 off ebay but was nudged out.

If i ever dive into the sub repair this post will be udated. Nothing was burnt or bulging in the amp. The protect mode has me thinking an output stage problem bit idk.

Do you drive all 4 of them or are the bottom two just being used as stands?

I drive them all. The receiver is 7.1 and 2 channels can be remapped. Heck currently dont even have the surrounds hooked up. I watch very little 5.1 anyway.

Jim, invert one M22 on top of the other. You want one tweeter to be right above the other. Try it. You'll like it. smile

Thanks.
That's a good idea but I already wire tied the speaker wires together for a little neatness. Maybe I'll do it soon but I already ran the Denon Audessey calibration although normally I keep it 'flat' or 'off'

I did go for a couple years with the lower ones just being 'stands' lol. only hooked all 4 up after the sub went out. Ones set is TI (2005) and the other is V2 or V3 (2012)cant recall.
