I'm not happy with the internal phono preamp in the turntable I have or the one in the AVR. I was wondering if anybody is using an external preamp and if so, which one?

What's your budget? May I ask what kind of turntable and cartridge are you using?

I don’t have anything high end as I’m just getting into vinyl, but I’m running a audio technical lp120 and an ortofon red 2m stylus/cartridge. Budget around $500 if it will make a big enough difference. I feel that it will based on research.

That's a good moving magnet cartridge. I have a decent passive phono preamp I can send to you. If you like, PM your contact info and I'll send it to you.
