I am considering M60s as mains and I am also considering getting a pair of M3 speakers as surrounds. Is that a good choice and how do they compare with QS series in that respect? Do I nessesarily need to get a 200$ stand for QS speakers?
Another question I have is related to Hsu HTF-2. I am thinking about getting it, but my receiver (Marantz SR8300) has a fixed crossover at 100 Hz, I think. Would HTF-2 be a good match for my system, since I saw people recommending setting crossover at 60-80 Hz. Is there any way around fixed crossover?

Correction:
I am wondering whether QS speakers can be used with regular surround sound stands (I already have a pair), I know they can be wall mounted.

I have the SR-8300 as well and I believe the crossover is at 80Hz due to its THX certification. The crossover can be adjusted at the sub as well. You can use a line level output to feed the sub, the sub's filter will reject signals above the crossover setting.

Thanks for the reply! I just saw 100 Hz somewhere, I could not find anything in the manual. Whould the signal rejected by the saub be then played by other speakers or just lost?

The signal going to the sub will be discrete for the sub. On the SR-8300, there is a sub out analogue jack on back that sends a signal specifically for the sub. The frequencies that are rejected by the filter are lost to the sub but not to the rest of the system.

I'm not sure what the stands are that you are describing for use with the QS8s, but if you're planning to set the speakers flush on the stands, there is a problem. The Qs have woofers that fire from the top and bottom, so they need clearance. I have my QS8s sitting on wall-mounted shelves, but the are sitting on 2 1/2" plumbing couplers that give the bottom woofer enough room to breathe.

In general, the consensus of the Axiom owners and the recommendation given by the Axiom staff is that the QSs are the best choice for surrounds. They diffuse the sound and envelope you with sound rather than act as a directional audio like the M3s. The QS8s are also the general recommendation, but if your room is on the smaller side, the QS4s are excellent as well. I have the M60/VP100/QS8s and my feeling is that the QS8s are the stars in the set up.

The M2s or M3s are generally recommended for the rear speakers in a 7.1 channel set up.

Thanks a lot for the information. By the stands I meant QSS. I already have regular stands I got from Parts Express, so I guess I'll need to get other ones for QS speakers.

Generally the QS series is wall mounted (at least for a lot of the people around here). That's Axiom's recommendation as well. The QSS are for those for whom wall mounting is not an option.
