Hi folks,

I am awaiting delivery of an EP125 subwoofer. It will be complementing the M3Ti bookshelf speakers in my roughly 10' x 13' x 7' room. (The M3Ti's are about 55 inches from the back wall -- a short one -- and between 2 and 3 feet from the side walls, depending on how much bass I want ... probably will stick with 3 feet now that I'll have a sub.)

This will be the first sub I've owned in my life, and I plan to experiment with placement ... but does anyone have any suggestions for starting points? Is it best to avoid corners, or do they work all right? Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Here's an excerpt from some revisions I'm writing for the Axiom Subwoofer Owner's Manual:

"Try locating your subwoofer near a wall or corner (corners yield the most bass output, albeit somewhat uneven and boomy). To find the best subwoofer location, move your couch or chair aside and place the subwoofer where you would normally sit to listen. Now play a CD or a DVD with lots of deep bass and crawl about your room until you find a location where the bass seems consistently smooth, deep, and non-boomy. That’s the place: mark that spot. Now, move the subwoofer to that location and put your couch or chair back in its usual position. Listen again to the same music or DVD, and the subwoofer bass output should duplicate what you heard at the location where the subwoofer now sits. Flip the sub’s “Phase” switch between the 0 and 180-degree positions. Leave the switch at the setting that produces the strongest deep bass."

That should get you started. Keep in mind that because of standing waves (bass resonances) determined by the particular dimensions of your room, simply shifting your listening chair (or the subwoofer) by a foot or two can sometimes make a profound difference in the quantity and quality of deep bass you hear. That goes for any speaker, not just subwoofers.
