Hi Guys,

I was pretty much set on getting the Epic Grand Master, but the wife prefers floorstanding speakers to bookshelf. The Epic 50 is almost the same price as the Grand Master - is there a considerble difference between the sounds of the M22ti and the M50's?

As well, I would probably get the QS4's for the surronds and upgrade the center to the VP150. Is the VP150 overkill for the Grand Master or Epic 50 system?

thanks

The M50 has more bass than the M22, however, the M22 has a more flat frequency response so it actually is a more accurate sounding speaker with better midrange in the frequencies above 80Hz. However, the differences are minimal and there are plenty of happy M50 owners out there. If you want the best of both worlds, you should go for the M60.

The reason I am considering the M22 and the M50's is that I am going to be putting this into a small section of an open concept living/dining room. As such, I will be at most 6-8 feet away from the TV, and I will only have maybe 7 feet between the speakers.

From what I have read, it seems the M60's need a lot of space to have a good soundstage, and I don't think I have the space.

If you stay closer to the 8' seating position, you should be fine with 7' between them.

Enjoy.

My M60s are about 7.5' apart (center to center), and I'm about 8' from each one and the TV set. I love 'em. However, at those distances, either the M22s or M50s would be OK, too.

I have my M50's only 5' ft apart from each other, and so far it's been outstanding. Of course my system is 85% home theater. If listening to music more, I'd spread them out at least 7' ft apart from each either. That's just my opinion though.

I have to second that. I was at Ajax's house this Tuesday -- yup, I went all the way to Ohio just to visit him (yeah, right!) -- and I have to agree that his M60s sound great even though they're located in room that many would call too small for them.

Pete, you are Axiom's unofficial set-up inspector . Is Jack the second or third forum denizen you have graced with your presence? Ever get near Rochester, NY?

And he's gonna be invading Tacoma TomTuttle's turf soon, too. I nominate Peter as the forum's ambassador at large (VERY large! )

Ray,

Ajax is the second forum member I have visited. mwc was the first, tomtuttle will be the third. Unfortunately, Cleveland and NYC are the closest I get to Rochester without a good excuse.

That's too bad Pete. it would be nice to see you. I have an idea on the back of my mind about trying to rally with Jack at craigsub's in Erie at some point, but keep that a secret - I don't want to get him excited.

chess - we should follow this around and see what it eats. Roch is about 1 1/2 hours from Niagra on the Lake. However, we are just north (2 hours) of the Finger Lakes and wine country. I have been known to tipple a bit in that area. I've got a business trip and some out-of-town vaca in jJuly, but let's see wjere we can take it.

Oh sure. Like I'm gonna get excited about "rallying" with some old goat, and a young whippersnapper who'd deaf from listening to too many subs. OY! Now if Meg Ryan, and Sandra Bullock were gonna be there, you'd have my socks rollin' up and down

I was just in Rochester (Pittsford actually) and Niagara on the Lake memorial day weekend. My wife's parents live up there. I'm up that way every couple of months.

Zarak, I'm only a couple of miles from Pittsford and ALWAYS have beer and a bit o the grape. I notice you are in PA. I grew up in Pittsburgh. On your next visit, we might want to quaff a few while experiencing the Axiom magic. Think it over.

Sounds good to me. I'm not sure when we are going up next to visit her parents, but I'll keep it in mind.

Since you live up there, did you hear about the Presbyterian church that got struck by lightning in Pittsford a couple of weeks ago? My wife's dad is the pastor there.

Well, just to drag this back on topic, and if you ever come back...

Peter and I will be comparing my new M50s and his M22s sometime this coming week, so you might want to watch out for that comparison.

Oh, and btw, the M50s seem plenty accurate to me!

thriller, now those were the days.. NOT.. i go into to convulsions everytime i hear that song..

OK, another stupid story of mine..

the local pop station when i was a kid, used to play thriller at exactly 7:30am every morning. now, they were more precise about it than a rolex watch. so , when thriller played, you knew it was 7:30.. that was my mental note to reference if i was gonna be late or early to school. my sister and i would have the radio playing while we got up, ate breakfast, took showers, brushed teeth, got dressed, etc.. now, if we left the house before thriller played, we would be on time for school with no probs.. but, if we were still in the house by the time thriller came on the radio, we knew we were gonna be late. you talk about two kids, grabbing their books, and jetting out the door. i swear we went thru 2 or 3 screen doors that year.

to this day, when i hear vincent price's voice, i go looking for my books.

see, told you it was stupid!
