I was going to put my surrounds on stands. But now I'm wondering if I should mount them on the wall.

- My basement room has an 8' ceiling at the sitting area
- There will be about 12 feet between my head and the TV
- There is only about 1-2 feet of space behind me to the back wall
- One of the side walls is too far away to mount on.

QUESTION: Should I go with stands, or should I mount them flush on the walls (and if so, how far left/right of where we sit?). Don't the speakers (Q4s or Q8s) need to be pointing TOWARDS our seated direction? If I mount flush, a few feet left/right behind our heads, they will be pointing straight ahead, and I'm worried that I'll lose some effect.

Thanks. This forum has been a huge help to me, and you guys make it all happen.

Jeff, the common suggestion is to mount on the side walls maybe a couple feet feet behind the sitting position and about 3' above ear level. With you sitting so close to the back wall and the problem with the one side wall, the best effect will probably be had by mounting on the back wall and widely separated, about a foot from the nearer side wall and a similar separation with the other speaker. They should face forwards and don't have to be pointed directly at the sitting position.

I think you'll find John's suggestion will work just fine. While it's optimal to place them on the side walls, I know that many here have them on the back wall. The QS series speakers are wonderful surrounds, and you can be very flexible with their positioning.
