Hi Guys,

Has anyone had any problems with there HK 630? Mine was working great up until 2 days ago.

I have owned it for a month now and up until two days ago I didn't even realize it had a fan in it. When it turns on it is really noticeable.

At first it was no big deal to my, it was just the receiver wanting to cool itself down. Then it kept doing it every 10 15 minutes? The wierd thing is that I wasn't playing anything loud at all! I had the volume at about -40 and was watching Pulp Fiction in DD.

Then, the receiver shut itself off! I thought, okay, maybe I hit the power button by accident. I turned it back on and in about a minute it shut itself off again! I felt the unit, it was hot, but not super hot. There was no smell coming from it either.

I recently re-arranged my livingroom (2 days ago, coinicidence?) and I am using a different plug-in. The power bar I am using is pretty much full and is a cheap one.

My set-up is a VP150, M60's, QS8's and a SVS sub. Have any of the HK630 users on this board had an issue like this? I really hope that I don't have to send this away for a warranty repair. I live in Canada and I purchased this from the US. Due to CSA I will have to send it back to the US to get looked at if it does need some work.

One more thing, it has been hot in Calgary the last couple of days and I do not have air conditioning. It has been pretty warm in the house all day (around 77-79 degrees 26 celcius) do you think that could cause a problem?

i am no expert on HK or electronics, but i can tell you that the power strip can make a difference.. if the powers trip you have is cheap, and cant handle a lot of joules, then the receiver could be struggling to get the power it needs, thus causing it to shut off. they make power strips that are specifically designed to handle the high joules of electronics like computers, receivers, and amps. i would see if the one you have is rated, and if not, spend the extra $30-$40 bucks for a good, high quality power strip that is rated for high usage items. i think it needs to have a joule rating of over 2,500..

i will be honest, i aint exactly sure what a joule is, but i know that if you have an old/bad/poor quality power strip, then you can , and will have probs with your equip.

Lest my physics education decieve me, a joule is a measurement of energy. I could be wrong, but I believe the higher joule rating the more energy it can handle. Just like wattage rates how muc power an amplifier can deliver. But wait, now I'm confused...

A joule is a quantity of energy, a watt is a rate of energy flow. 1 watt = 1 joule/second. A volt is a measure of electrical energy given a certain flow of electrons. 1 volt means that 1 joule will be produced if I coulomb of charge flows through the circuit. (1 coulomb = 1.6 x 10^19 electrons).

Cool, I picked up a 2655 Joule surge protector from the Shack.

Got the Blekin Maximum Series, hopefully this will help.

I will be a 630 owner this comming tues myself! Anyway was thining if that doesnt help I'd be there is a bad temp sensor on the unit, since you say it turns the fans on withotu it being hot then even off its probably misreading thinking the unit is overheating when its not.

Either way prolly have to service it.

Did the powerestip work? Does someone know if simply plugging the reciever straight into the wall is a bad idea. I would think this would be one way to get maximum power. Is my logic wrong?

I don't know if it will work yet, I am still at work. I will reply later, as I am heading out for a few after work pints.
