Hello all. I took the plunge today and (following BigJohn's happiness with it-- thanks BJ) I picked up the pioneer 563a. Yeah! New toys! I'm quite happy to be able to listen to CDRs and MP3s now! However, I really want to check out some SACDs and DVD-As. I know I have seen other recommendations here, but (maybe I'm being dumb) I can't find any of those in the search. So help me please. Those of you who have heard them what would you recommend? So far I figure I'll pick up:
Dark Side of the Moon
Hell Freezes Over
Allison Krauss (someone mentioned a live cd of hers I think)
Fleetwood Mac Rumors
Peter Gabriel SO

Lately my tastes have run more towards jack johnson and ben harper, but that can't last forever and some other great music would be very nice. I'm hoping for that "wow that's good, what a nice suprise" feeling.

Well they don't have Jack Johnson or Ben Harper SACD's or DVDA's but if you like them you should try out these artists:

Ben Kweller
Mason Jennings
Jason Mraz
Josh Ritter

Again I don't believe any of these artists are on Hi Rez.

I have Allison Krause "New Favorite" which is a sacd. The live one, that I have anyway, is not an sacd.

JR, this is the most outstanding bargain released so far on SACD.

Thanks john. I picked up Allison Krauss and Union Station New Favorite (sacd). Fleetwood Mac Rumors (dvd-a). Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon (sacd) and Diana Krall The girl in the other room (sacd).

All well done recording wise. I think my favorite so far is Alison Krauss. I had never heard her before (except in compilation singing traditional bluegrass). Holy cow this is amazing. I love finding new groups that surprise me the way this album did. I wonder if her other albums are as good. Or, if I am a closet bluegrass fan and I never new it!
Pink Floyd and Fleetwood Mac I knew I would like. I have them both already and those were great. Diana was ok, but I'm not much into her style I guess.

Yup, her other albums are that good. And you're probably a closet bluegrass fan...

Just to clarify, her live cd does come in SACD form - and it's fantastic. Very tasteful and convincing use of surround sound.

That said, even if you can only find the cd-only version, you should get it.

I've got a couple. Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys on DVD-Audio (note, no CD layer) and Producer's Cut by Emmylou Harris, alson DVD-Audio.

The store above seems to have most titles.

I've enjoyed some HDCD discs like Emmylou's "Wrecking Ball" and Buffalo Springfield's "Last Time Around". Dire Straits albums have been Super Bit re-mastered and they were already excellent sonically.
