I love the Axiom forum and I confess I don't post here that often but I enjoy the information and generally, the nature of the forum. I guess I just wish that everyone could get along a little better. Let's try to be a little more understanding. We're all human and we all make the occassional errors. Let's try to recognize that before reacting without thought.

3 things I hate reading in the Axiom forum...

1. Someone posts an review/opinion about someone, something but then is attacked personally by others who don't agree with their opinion.

2. People who post their opinions on products that they don't own or haven't even demoed or used.

3. People who post without thinking about the consequences of their post (see no 1.)

Now having said all that, please don't try to kill me.

Peace

I'll add: "Addicts" who answer: "it's the placebo effect",
or, "we've already gone over this...... here, read this thread.

This one really gets me too. I've seen this one escalate into the bigotry catagory (as in: intolerence, prejudice and narrowmindedness) on this board. But I have to say, it is far, far milder on the Axiom boards than some I've seen in other audio forums. Don't let a few wormy apples keep you from the tree. All in all, I find most folks here to be very tolerent of others opinions.

peace to you to Lorenzo1000!

Hmmm, this wasn't really what I had in mind for this. Wasn't meant to be a "complaint form" post. More of a "Let's all be friends" post. But oh well.

1. Personal attacks bother me the most. Someone said it much better than I when they said something like "criticize ideas or products, not people." The problem is, when someone makes a personal attack worthy of rebuttal, how do you criticize the personal attack without criticizing the person who made it?

2. It really bothers me to see the word "definitely" misspelled "definately."

The problem is we aren't pronouncing the word correctly. Our language is being schwa-ed to death. For those who don't know, and it's perfectly OK if you don't, a schwa is the "uh" sound, often represented in spelling by an "a.". If we say it def-i-nuht-ly, we're going to spell it with an "a." If we say it def-i-knit-ly, the "i" becomes obvious.

OK! OK! I was a speech major in college. I can't help it! I humbly ask you to understand that for those of us who love the language, and value it's importance, it's very difficult for us to watch it/hear it being murdered before our very eyes/ears.

3. The belief that the placebo effect doesn't exist. Never underestimate the ability of ones brain to fool ones senses. If you doubt me, ask a pilot.

4. Imposing one's political position on others who may feel differently. Although, we're getting better at keeping those threads almost civil.

5. Imposing one's religious position on others who may feel differently. Fortunately, this issue has never arisen here.

6. Not enough SEX in our posts.

(LOL! When I ran my spell checker, I almost inadvertently corrected the words I had purposely misspelled. You all would have thought "what the $%&* is he talking about. )

LOL Wha'? Did you think you get to post your complaints, and we don't?

But I wasn't complaining. I am just disappointed and somewhat uncomfortable reading when threads take on a personal attack or undue criticism mode. But you can never win can you?

Me too, Lorenzo. I do hope you understand that what I said was in jest. That's why I used BOTH a smile and a wink.

"4. Imposing one's political position on others who may feel differently."

You're right that this forum is likely not the proper place for political discussions, but "imposing" is probably not the best word to describe someone who is simply presenting their point of view on a debatable topic. "Imposing" implies the use of force.

I never felt imposed upon when the guys would drop their anti-Bush one-liners (though I did feel compelled to respond ).

In counterpoint, I'd build on Lorenzo's comment relative to there being much less of the "dark side" on this forum. Frankly, I stop in mostly for the camaraderie, the broad discussions and the occasional opportunity to add some input. Once in a while the input is both relevant and correct!

One of the things I think about is the difficulty to convey humor with the written word. Tone of voice, body language, facial expressions and the like help tremendously in this area. As a result, fires start to burn due to misinterpretation of the receiver of what may have been meant to be a be a friendly poke.

I believe the personal attacks are much less prevalent here, but they still, unfortunately, occur. The only grind I have is with someone who continues, right, wrong or indifferent, to bang on their drum to absolutely convince all others that their opinion is not only correct, but it is the ONLY opinion that matters. And they continue to convince you of that fact relentlessly.

At the end of the day, this is a terrific forum, with the occasional wart. Jack, I hope you definately agree.

I'll tell you, I was very hesitant to even open this thread. As usual, Jack (and Lorenzo) made my fears unwarranted. I will personally try to increase my quotients for humor and tolerance. Hey, I've upped my standards, up yours.

On the humor thing, I've realized that quite recently. I have an extremely dry sense of humor, so that gets me into trouble sometimes... Harder to explain when you're typing.

ROFL. It's that sludge that keeps us employed! Usually the result of late nights, bathing in cathode ray tub radiation and various forms of pizza, chips, and caffienated drinks.
now wash it off!

I concur that political threads should be banned. The thing that I don't like about political discussions at other forums is that there always seems to be someone who becomes offended easily and begins to personally attack the individual who they feel has offended them.
