The first thing I notice is that the article was written in 1972. I wonder how much tech has improved since then.

The second thing is that it referred to studio recording, not reproduction. If, as some state, solid state amps/preamps/etc reproduce sound accurately in the home, then this article has little bearing on our usual arguments. Tubes may produce better sound recording-wise, but if SS reproduction is accurate, then it will accurately reproduce that better sound on the recording, as opposed to changing the sound as tubes would. Mind you, I've never heard any tubed stuff, and I'm not saying one way is better than the other. Simply making observations...
