The one thing that you do want to keep in mind is that while the QS8 does emanate sound spatially, high frequencies are far more directional then low frequencies by lying the speaker down with only the lower driver pointing out into the room you are going to change the dynamics of the sound dispersion from that speaker. You will have to experiment but as I found out the results were not what I was expecting. In your situation I think that you would get better results by using a VP100 or VP150 as your rear channel.

I've had no vibrations from the QS8s while sitting on shelves. The sound dispersion is excellent regardless of their placement but changing placement definitely improves the surround quality in certain locations (some of which i simply cannot mount the speakers...yet). This includes elevated heights and for my preference, about a half foot behind my listening position.
I would probably modify that thought once i get a 6th channel surround for the rear.

That is interesting to note.
I think before i decide on adding a 6th channel i will take my present vp150 and move it to the rear as a test.

Yes, in addition to possibly experimenting with various QS8 arrangements in back, the VP150 could be disconnected( use the mains in "phantom" mode for the center channel)and used for the back speaker to see if the more direct sound was more to your taste, as it was for John Henderson.
