colour me confused.

A review of the home theatre packages at Axiom indicates that only the top of the line Epic 80 gets the VP150 center speaker, yet almost every poster says if you can affford it get the VP150.

That leaves me with a few questions?

If thats the case why isn't it recommended for the packages that Axiom puts together except for the 80?

Will it timbre match with any front speaker? There must be a limit I would think, M3ti, M2i??

I look at the specs (admittedly not the best way to review speakers) and the VP100 seems to be a superb speaker that would match very well with the bookshelves and most of the tower models.

Having said that I have to admit the VP150 is pure beauty and I can understand the desire to get one. I just want to know acoustically what it will and won't match with.

thanks

Great Question!!! No you are not confused.

The best way to answer this is order every speaker Axiom makes so you can audition them in your house, then return the ones you enjoyed the least. If you did this, you would return all but the VP150, the M80, the QS8, and if you had to keep a sub, you'd keep the EP350.

Axiom uses the same tweeter from m2i up to m80, and the hybrid tweeter isn't THAT much different, it's a little bit less good with sound dispersion and sounding clean and effortless. This means if you are concerned with timber matching, you could technically match any of the speakers with the same tweeters.

However, I use the QS4's with M22's and VP150, and the QS4's use the hybrid tweeters, and they sound excellent.

You can always use the volume control on your receiver to increase or decrease the volume of the center channel if you, say, buy a VP150 and M2i (the VP150 will play louder if your amp properly powers its 6 ohms). I think they could work well if you calibrated your system to do so. The only thing I would avoid is buying mains with the hybrid tweeter and center with the better tweeter, or vice versa.

My personal opinion is that the suggestions in the home theatre packages and wizards aren't the best. I would include the VP150 with the M22 and up (by that i mean more expensive). Maybe I would even put it with the M3's. I have M3's in my bedroom, and I might one day put them in the regular system in place of the M22's to see how they sound.

My advice is, yes, buy the VP150, unless you're buying very small bookshelves, like the Mzero or M1.

Ravi,

If you had to do over, would you have upgraded the rears to QS8's or do you feel the QS4's are suffice??

If i had to restart, I would have bought the QS8's just because I believe in buying the best, but I could only afford the QS4's.

I also would not have bought the ep125
i would have bought an SVS 20-39 PCi for subwoofer.

I would have kept the M22 and VP150, these are excellent.

I have already chosen the 25-31PCI as my sub. It's nice with the $50 svs summer savings too. The QS8 and VP150 will be a must too with the M22ti's. Oh I cannot wait until it all arrives, it will be like finally getting to Thanksgiving dinner!!

Where did you get your stands? I am looking at the ones at AudioShop.

either get your stands from Axiom, or call Marc at the AudioShop in Ottawa. He'll recommend some really good SBF stands for you.
