This is my secon post in AXIOm, as I am new to the family. And proud o fit.
Hey is there good diagram on-line somewhere that I can see how to use different setups for different room and speaksers.


my main problem is the rear in which the couch is flush to the wall and their is no side walls.

I asume I can point the rears at each other toward the center of the couch...i this acceptable?

or cna the QS8 or 4s be mounted directly above the couch and listeneers heads? with no horizontal depth, just verticle?

looking at the Dolby Diagram


the QS series would be on the side as "surround"? and the M3ti in the back as REAR?

or shwith that around? on the 7.1 ?


in the 5.1 diagram...the "surroud" opn the sides could be either bookshelf 3Ti or the QS series?

I ask sinceI am not sure if we are achieving direct sound from the bookshelves pointed or radiant sound from the QS in the same position.

If you're running a 7.1 setup, it is my opinion that QS series speakers should be on the sides, and either QS or
direct radiating speakers (M3, M2, M22) in the rear.

In a 5.1 configuration, you are correct that you could use either direct radiating speakers (M2, M3, M22), or QS series speakers a your surrounds. I personally prefer the QS series speakers as surrounds, but there are others here who prefer direct radiating speakers.

Here's what the Axiom FAQ says about surrounds.

"Ideally, surround speakers should be either wall-mounted or stand-mounted to either side of the couch or primary listening area, from one to six feet higher than seated listeners' ears, and slightly forward or rearwards of the listening area if you wish. Axiom's Quadpolar surrounds are especially versatile and can yield excellent performance with stand or wall-mounting to the rear as well as at side locations. (see our dedicated stands for the QS Surround speakers in the Store). Rear center speakers for 6.1 and 7.1 installations are intended to go on the rear wall at about the same height as the surround speakers."

Since your couch will be flush against the back wall, I would think 5.1 would do just fine with the QS series, or direct radiating speakers, mounted on the side slightly in front of the listening area. In your other post you mention not having walls on either side of the couch, so you would have to mount the direct radiating speakers on stands of some sort. If you went with the QS series speakers for surrounds, you could mount them on the Axiom stands, or hang them from the ceiling (if that's possible) with either the Omnimount ceiling mount, or the Axiom Full Metal Bracket (FMB).

Thanks Mark. I think Whatfurrer uses 22s as surrounds, and maybe FordPrefect, but I'm not sure about that one.

That is basically what I concluded as well. I think even with the couch flush, I can squeeze the M3ti on brackets on the wall right behind us...it migh be tight, between them and the Qs to the imeadiate sides, but should work.

I am sure I will still get some noticable sound from REAR even being so close to the surrounds on the side...i hope!

Sorry Jack, your memory has let you down I've got QS8s for surrounds.

I'm not trying to talk you out of 7.1, but it doesn't seem like you need it in the room you describe. The QS8s spray sound all over the place. You'll get so many reflections off the back wall you'll think it IS 7.1.
