..........another reason why people should give the M3's big brother a listen! The M50's and M3's sound so much alike it's scary.

Here's a direct link to the review 2x6 mentioned. (The link above just goes to a general page.)

OK, just to make bigjohn happy I got my M3's today, listened to some Alice in Chains unplugged, after getting the huge grin off my face I proceeded to spend rest of the nite working on the basement.

Could the M3Ti's be used as an outdoor speaker - on the back of the house in a spot that has an overhang so it wouldn't get directly rained on, but would be exposed to the environment?

Well, they are inexpensive enough to replace every 2 years or so.
What's the environment like? Cold, wet, snowy, hot, humid, etc?
(like I have a clue...)

South Texas. Very hot. Humid in early summer, dry in late summer, 1 or 2 episodes of freezing temps per year. Might get some rain blown on it during high winds (although I've never seen that area of the wall get wet, I haven't specifically looked at it with that in mind after a bad storm).

Hello Foghorn,
Hope you are well. I do not believe they would withstand being outside very well. Biggest problem I see is that they are covered with vinyl laminate, which I believe would peel off after extremes of temp and humidity. I don't know how the aluminum woofer and the titanium tweeter will react to outdoor conditions.
Axiom does offer more expensive high gloss finishes, which should be more weather resistant. I would talk to Axiom on the phone, and find out how the drivers would react to outdoor conditions, and how suitable the high gloss finish would hold up also.
Later,
TonyM

I have a somewhat similar situation in that I wanted to put a pair of M3's on a screen porch. The porch has a peaked roof so I plan to mount them up on a beam so that I could completely avoid any rain getting on them. I live in NH where we have very extreme temperatures in winter.
I sent my question to Axiom and Alan answered back that they would do fine in that environment. He indicated that there is an Axiom employee that uses a set in his unheated garage and that despite the very cold Canadian winters (they probably have NH beat!) the alum. and titantium drivers aren't affected.
So...ordered my M3's from the factory outlet last week and am anxiously awaiting their arrival!
In your case the big issue is going to be the precipitation which would probably ruin the cabinets. The outdoor speakers I've seen are sealed designs so the port on the back of the M3's would be a big problem.
How about using banana connections and just pulling the M3's out when you are actually outside? Would be a pain but at least you would have great sound at a reasonable price.

Thanks to all for the input. It is more of a hypothetical question at this point as I used a Circuit City gift card to buy some speakers already - and when I compared them to everything they had (including Polk and Infinity) a cheap ($60) set of Dual speakers sounded best. I'm anticipating that when I actually get the multizone hookup working, I'll be disatisfied with the outside sound compared to my interior zones ( 1)Polk component home theatre, 2) M22s + Velodyne CHT-8, 3) Mirage M260s) because the outside speakers from the good companies sounded like crap...so I was wondering about using an inside speaker...
The putting it up/taking it down option doesn't appeal to me - the site where the speaker wires come out of the wall is about 9 ft high - I want to be able to just turn on the stereo and jump in the pool - not have to search for a ladder.

I liked the sound of Athena's outdoor speakers, FWIW.
