At present, I think I have put the Yam 2400 in front of the Denon 3805 based on price and actually THX Build...and a few other things.

ok..

So wher doe the Pioneer Elites fit in i think it is the 53 model?

they look solid as tank...is there any plus minus compared to the yam or the denon?

i havent heard much good or bad about the elites.. no major complaints, so i figure they cant be all bad. i would just hate to say, cause i really have no real experience with them.

as far as the yammys and denons, you would most likely be very happy with either. dont let the THX deal make your decision, it is over-rated(IMO).. i know the biggest complaints i have heard on the denons are the instruction manual is not easily written and hard to understand.. and that the remote is kinda small and flimsy, and not laid out well. but, the sound is supposed to be great with power to spare..

i havent heard nothing bad on the yamahas.. i think both have the auto calibration.. equal power and features.

to be honest, both of those would do you a fine job. i think you would be pleased with both.

PS- if price is a big concern, look at the Onkyo 701, 801, 901.. they are last years models and you can find them cheap.. they are very comparible in features to the receivers you have mentioned!

Long, long ago (internet time), we had a member with a 53 (Sushi), who really, really liked it. I think the reason they don't come up much is not a matter of quality, it's a matter of who owns what. You don't see many H/K recommendations these days either, because then number of us who own them has also gone down.

I have the 53TX predecessor, 45TX and love it. The MCACC is a good feature for me, though that brings up a can worms... It works for me and I'm happy.

I think the only complaint when moving from the 45TX to the 53TX was that the remote was scaled down in features. No biggie, I use a Harmony 688 anyways. Featurewise, the Elites hold their own. My understanding is that the Yammy 2400 and others have a similar MCACC. Although I somehow recall on one of the threads here that there was some "issue" with that. I could be remembering wrong.

I use my 45TX to drive M22s, VP150, QS8s, Tivo, Denon 2200 DVD, VCR, Plasma, HD DirecTV recv (HD Tivo on order), and Gamecube. The main reason I got this receiver was because of Sushi's recommendations.

I don't have a Pioneer, but I've had a bad experience with Kenwood. My 1080VR receiver sucks. Stereo is fine, but anything more than 2 channels throttles the output down and reduces dynamic range and clarity, probably b/c it doesn't have a very robust power supply. You can usually tell: companies won't list power output ratings as 20-20kHz, all channels driven, at x% THD.

Oh, and get this...it generates a 60Hz hum that goes away when I dim the front LED display...not exactly top drawer engineering.

Next time, I'll go to an audio salon and audition a receiver rather than buy from a big box store. Stereo is hard to screw up, but 5.1 mode there are genuine differences.

I have the 53TX and I have no complaints or regrets. It handles the M60s, VP150 and QS8s with no problems.

i might have to put 1/3 of my auditioning into it.
about ayear ago..i was looking at ELITE and Denon...now i went to Yamaha and Denon...not that Denon is the comon theme...

But i do need to look again at the elites.
