I have a basic understanding of the crossover- essientially a filter.

I was looking at my former choice for speakers he Paridigm Monitor series. I am guessing (and may be way off) that the Axioms are on par with the monitor series???

Any way i noticed the crossovers point for the Paradigms was wk and the Axioms are about 3.6k

what does this difference mean in the real world...or for that matter on paper or theory.

More than anything I think I am trying to put together a picture of what differences the 2 brands have that makes the what they are. I love my axioms. I just want to understand WHY LOL

Dave, the M22 crossover is at 2.7 KHz, compared to 2.0 KHz on the Monitors. The idea is to set the crossover high enough so that the tweeter's power handling capacity isn't strained by making it handle a too low frequency range. Equally important is setting it low enough so that the midwoofer doesn't have to handle a higher frequency range where it wouldn't have good dispersion. Since the Monitor midwoofers have bigger cones(the bigger the cone, the sooner its dispersion begins to narrow)they need a lower crossover to have wide dispersion of the frequencies near the crossover point. So, it's just a balancing of the midwoofer size vs the tweeter size.

BTW, the Axioms are more equivalent to the Studio line than the Monitor line.

I was so close to going monitors too.

they really are nice and perform well. That was in the show room though.

I rolled the dice on the Axioms and am very glad i did.

IMO I still say the finish could have been a little upper level.

but inside they have every thing i need.

One of these days I'll convince the wife that the 22's are medicore and WE NEED the 80s

LEt me see if i got this right..because I never quite understood my reciever:

When I set the crossover I thought it was saying anything below here go to the SUB and the rest go to the speakers. ??

then the other thing is I have a what seems to be a EQ in the receiver...for low, mid, and high, I can set a freq...I never understood if these are like slides on an EQ or agin crossover points? if so whats strangeis I can make the high less than the mid or the mid and low equal etc.

not sure exactly its function to say the least.

Sony- if they had a better book..maybe i'd stick with them next time.

That's right, Dave, the receiver crossover sets the point above which the the response of the sub is rolled off and below which the response of the other speakers is rolled off. Yes, some of those Sonys have equalizers which serve as fancier tone controls. One possible use is to tone down some pop recordings which are hotly recorded in the upper midrange/lower treble.
