OK, I am still setting up my HT system. I mentioned that i have the 12" earthquake supernova and love it. I also mentioned my difficult 10x22 room, speakers firing the 10ft way. I have (2) exact matched JBL 150 subs, these came from my girlfriends home, they are about a year old, they are "decent" 10" 150/300 watt powered subs, cost about 300.00/350.00 ea. new. with such a long room would it make sense to (stack) the twin JBL's at one end, and put the supernova at the other, then try to tweak them in, or is 3 subs from 2 different menufactuers just going to cause more problems. I don't have a room that can support the JBL's now, they are just sitting there. I quess my question is: I have heard that bass is bass, kinda, and not as critical to be paralelled as other types of speakers, any suggestions on other placement in a 10x22 room, Thanks Jon

I don't know about the placement. Hopefully Craigsub will read this and offer some suggestions. But, as far as "how much bass is too much," there is a very nice fellow (Frank Manrique) who posts over at the Home Theater Forum, who has 8 (count 'em EIGHT) SVS 16-46 cylinder subs, and 2 (count 'em, TWO) SVS B$+ subs. Then there is Craig himself, who has just one or two measly subs (see here).

Hmmm. Too much bass? Not sure there is such a thing . As bigjohn explained, craigsub should weigh in shortly with some pretty good advice.

There's an article here that discusses the use of multiple subs and that doing so would theoretically provide better results than using just one (I think it also assumes multiples of the same sub are used). The article includes a link to a white paper on the topic that can be found here.

Getting all those subs dialed in might be difficult. Whether it's worth it to go to all that trouble would also depend on whether you are looking to get great sounding bass in multiple locations throughout the room or just for the primary listening position.

That was good stuff. Thanks. I may try unstacking my subs and putting them in the two front corners.

Jon - By "firing the 10 foot way", do you mean the mains are along the 10 foot wall, and firing the length of the room. If so... try the subwoofer 7 feet from the back wall. This will minimize room resonances, and should yield the smoothest response.

Also... just use the EarthQuake for now... you have a room around 2000^3 feet... that is not a huge area. Please post the results if you try this...

Craigsub, no the opposite. the mains are againist the long 22 ft wall, they have to be because of archs on the ends of the room. The drivers face the other 22ft wall in other words they fire about 9ft once placed away abit from the wall. When I speak of a room 10x22 it flows in to another room with where the end of the 10ft wall has a 8ft arch with no doors that goes to an entry room. the other 10ft wall has a 6ft arched opening that also cannont be closed with doors, so it a long narrow challange!! They were NOT thinking about my H.T. system when they built this house back in 1924. there are 9ft ceings, so thats why I was considering more subs (to spred the sound because of the length of the room/overall area)

Sorry Jack, although I expect bigjohn deserves the bigger apology!
