This looks to be a very nice player. I was looking into the 5900 but this seems to be a better value.

DOJ,
I've been following all the talk about the new Denons closely, and as you can imagine, lacking official word from Denon, there has been a lot of conflicting information spread around. But, the consensus seems to be that the 3910 is a kinda newer version of the 5900 at a much lower price, and hence, a better value. If so, I can't imagine what the upcoming 5910 will be like. Yipes!

I wonder if this means we'll start seeing some fire sales on the DVD-2900.

Let's hope that prices start dropping on those. I wouldn't mind owning one.

Not that I know of. There's been a lot of talk about it over at the AVS forum, and some have said it is upcoming soon. But, so far, Sony has NOT given authorization for SACD to be transmitted via DenonLink.

this is a blind question, because i don't know jackson about SACD.
But i assume Denon link is some performance enhancing mode or componant changing auto function. Not even sure.
But I do have to ask why/how is a company getting "in" with a generic concept.
not sure if this makes snes...
I look at it like this
Tires are generic for any car. Yet if put on a Model T, lol
if put on a model T, they will automaticall fix punctures...but only on model T
yet the same tire on a Model G, that same tire..would simply be a tire.
am I way off? or is this analogy somewhat on par?

Denon link is one cable versus a whack of cables. No fancy tricks etc. Instead of 5 or 6 cables coming from a DVDA player or whatever, you can run with one. Not the best description but I think you get my point.

I think it cogent to mention that the "one" cable keeps the signal in the digital domain (like a toslink or coaxial cable), while the "whack of cables" (I DO love that descriptive phrase ) passes an analog signal. I think it's got to do with copy protection. Sony doesn't want a digital signal passed to prevent "perfect" copies from bing made. (I hope I've got this correct. It's been a tough day, and I'm not responsible for anything I say. )

Hey. First, I was sincere about liking that phrase. And second, bings are very good cherries!

Is Denon link a proprietary cable, or is it Firewire?

thats all in Denon,
What does SACD have anyhting to do with how the mechanical part works...sure there is a porgram or code on the CD
but i guess...why Denon...and not everybody get the code?
hopefully that makes more sense as a question
i know --money..thats not really the answer i'm thinking
i guess...why not make a UNIVERSAL code that all equipment would benifit from...since a CD is generic.

I thought the Denon Link was proprietary. The link can only be used with Denon products. This is from the review at Audioholics on the Denon 3805:
DENON Link 3rd Edition
Break out the champagne, Denon has enabled native DVD-Audio (MLP) and SACD (DSD) support with DENON Link 3rd Edition (included on the AVR-3805 and fully active). Once approval from SACD licensers is given for transmission from Denon Link 3rd-enabled DVD players, you will finally be able to connect ONE CABLE from the player (like the DVD-5900 or future players) to the AVR-3805 (or AVR-5803).
Note: DENON has already submitted 'DENON Link 3rd Edition' to Super Audio CD licensers and content holders for the purpose of obtaining approval for transmitting multi-channel digital signals of Super Audio CD, and this is currently in the approval process. The digital transmission of Super Audio CD to the AVR-3805 or AVR-5803A from players equipped with 'DENON Link 3rd Edition' will become possible upon completion of the aforementioned approval process and at the stage where formal approval has been obtained. DENON plans to make notification concerning details of the implementation period, method and price of updates to 'DENON Link 3rd Edition' for DVD players which have been sold, and are currently equipped with 'DENON Link 2nd Edition (SE)'.
D-Link worked flawlessly for me, allowing the AVR-3805 to handle all bass management and processing for DVD-Audio as well as DVD-Video discs. Getting the D-Link connection is as easy as enabling D-Link in the DVD player (in this case the DVD-5900), setting your Digital Audio Assignment for the DVD Player to DLINK in the AVR-3805 and connecting the D-Link cable (which should be included with Denon Universal players.) In the event that you have a Denon DVD Player equipped with DENON Link 2nd Edition, you can set the DVD input to switch to the external Multi-channel inputs whenever a D-LINK signal is not present, thus allowing your player to send SACD to the AVR-3805 through its multi-channel inputs (this function is enabled by default.

I think your correct, Paul. It is proprietary.

We need to agree not to say "D-Link" when referring to the Denon Link, since D-Link is already a computer hardware vendor. Confused me for a minute there
And based purely upon looking at this picture of the back of the 5805, I can say with confidence that the Denon Link is not just firewire. The port looks more like ethernet to me, and is probably proprietary.

not that I denie the Denon Link is great
it is just strange that it has its coding on a generica item that will be used in any player
this is like putting PS1or2 info on a gamcube disc....
