with all the great brands to be confused by- lol
are the brains really a whole lot different in the brands?
i.e. Yams, motorla. brown. etc.?
are there non-subjective or subjective for that matter...tests that say one processor or converter does out perform another for some reason or another?

Based on my experience, my opinion is that there is an ENORMOUS difference in sound quality among processors. I may not have expressed myself clearly before, but I have used some mid level receivers' processing sections as stand alone processors (Sony STRDB 1070 and Onkyo TX DS 797 THX) used with outboard amps and have compared them, in the same systems with dedicated processors (Sony TA E9000ES and Integra DTC 9.4).
There is no comparison. The TA E9000ES makes MUCH BETTER sound quality than the processing section of the STRDB 1070. The Integra DTC 9.4 makes MUCH BETTER sound quality than the processing section of the Onkyo 797.
As to bang for the buck, for either 2 channel or 5.1 the Sony TA E9000ES with firmware upgrades is an absolute steal at $499. If you must have 6.1 or 7.1, this processor is not for you. BTW, this processor is really 5.2 in that it has stereo sub outs.

Without a doubt there is. A good Burr Brown is going to be heads and tails above what you will find in a generic HT box. Denon for example has Burr Brown's in the new 3805 but not in the 2805. The 3805 also runs SHARC. It's like anything else, you get what you pay for. Parasound, EAD, Proceed and of course Denon all use Burr Brown DAC's in there higher end products but not in there main stream offerings.

Which Yamaha? There current flag ship HT box is running Burr Browns if I'm not mistaken. I guess that tells you something right there....they don't use there own in the high end stuff.

that is so interesting
some brands have such similarities..ha haha
and some major diferences as well..and what interesting...there are brands..that make the chips etc. that i wouldn't feed my dog.
and they are on "good" recievers....that is so trippy.
and the funniest thing....you might think you are buying a GTO but getting Firebird...or.. a camaro under the hood
or a chevelle and getting a vette...or a mustang
very very interesting
which begs the question...how do we compare them against each other...i will look again for comparison charts of some kind.
thanks man
