They're here!!!! WOW....HEAVY little suckers. Had them delivered to work so can't play around till tonight.

OK...what movies should I use to test how good they are? I don't have any LOTR's, but have heard good things about Bourne Identity....What about the Matrix movies?

Any movies / specific scenes would be greatly appreciated!!!

They are heavy! Make sure you get them into a stud when you hang them, and then hope they don't tear the wall down... I was particualrly impressed with the sound of the propeller in one scene in Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Stud / Axiom....those two go hand in hand. (And I haven't even heard them yet!!!!)

WOW...having them delivered to work was really stupid....I can't keep peaking under my desk!!!! Have already took them out twice. Hope my work doesn't have cameras, I'd look really silly caressing them!!!!

great man.. its gonna be hard to fight the urge to take off early.. hope they mount up easy, and you are enjoying them soon.

the bourne identity is cool cause it has tons of very little, subtle sounds that you wont hear on a regular system. the soundtrack is real good, and the music seems to fly or swoosh thru the room.. on top of that, you hear little things that will make you turn your head.. birds chirping, dogs barking, the wind rustling thru a grain field, cars whissing by, etc.. they are not over powering, but just enough to make you think and feel like you are ACTUALLY in the movie.. i dug it the most.

the LOTR series are great, and the matrix series to. the 'kill bill' series is real good on surround also. i think the movies with the DTS track really make the best use of the surrounds.

a few examples-

'open range'
'pulp fiction'
'gladiator'
'saving private ryan'

just to name a few..

In looking at them, I noticed a scre right in the middle of the two brackets. Is that to be unscrewed and then re-screwed into the T bracket that I'll mount them to the wall to? I placeed the T braceket on the speaker, and it doesnt' look like it lines up w/ a hole on the bracket once it's slid into place. Or does that screw not have anything to do with the bracket and just leave it alone?

The screw doesn't have anything to do with the T bracket. Leave it alone, unless it interferes (which is shouldn't). It's for the Full Metal Brackets Axiom sells separately.

Chris,

You have GOT to stop fondling your QS8s! Sheesh! It's a good thing the QS8s don't have any ports. Holy Cow!

Sorry, Chris. It's an inside joke. Just do your best to keep your fingers off the drivers.

I have older QS8s that don't have the screw you're talking about, but I believe that's a threaded insert for certain kinds of mounts you can use, but NOT for the T mount that came with them. Somebody with newer ones will be along and give you better info.

You're gonna love those speakers. I've got mine temporarily propped up on some books to free up the bottom firing driver. It's anything but ideal, but they STILL sound great. Enjoy!

just got my 2nd pair yesterday! They are sweet.

I was surprised at some of the surround effect in Jarassic Park III. One in particualr (i played it bac k a few times) is at the very begining when the plane flys by. It literally feels like it goes right through you .... definate Wow factor for company.

There's a scene in Monsters Inc. ("23-19" or something like that) where the monster steps out of the closet in the scare factory with a child's sock stuck to his back. Great effects throughout the scene but especially nice with the QS8's when the helicopter flies overhead.

If you like music then there are some great concert DVD's that make you feel like you are sitting in the middle of the crowd (without the risk of someone spilling a beer on you, unless you have a clumsy spouse or roommate that is! ). My favorite right now is REM's Perfect Square Live. Great stuff. Turn out the lights, turn up the sound, and enjoy the show.

So I've asked in another thread. I have the QS4's and have been thinking about moving up to the 8's. Room is about 22 x 30 with half of it being used for HT, the other for a pool table. The 4's sound good but would it be worth movingup to the 8's? Right now the 4's are mounted to a wall 4 feet back from the listening area about 6 .5 feet up. Would I notice a major change by going to the 8's?

Indepedence Day - Special Edition.

Older movie, but hell, the opening credits break apart and swoosh by you in surround, and there's more bass in that movie then.....I don't know what, like come on 8 buildings blow up in the span of 5 minutes

After a weekend of listening, all I can say is WOW. Hearing things I've never heard out of my surrounds. I wasn't expecting a WOW factor since these are "just surrounds" but ...WOW.

So far, my favorite surround scene, is in The Matrix, when they go to retrieve Neo's body in the Pod?? Anyway, there's a TON of surrounds going on.

Can't wait to get those M60's next!!!!

After watching some of the MAtrix and (boooos) being let down a bit

i realized it was not DTS or THX

I looked through my colection and knw Gladiator was DTS- WOW!

Then I went to the store yesterday and my wife wanted MAtrix 3 and i wanted Xmen2 (DTS)

I got neither in protest! LOL

i will go back today and get XMEN2- I hope the flick itself is alittle better than the first.

or should I go Laura croft 2 ?

any ideas?

still any DTS is sure to be killer

i have not seen the XMEN2, but have been told it is better than the first movie. i have never seen lara croft 2, so i cant comment on that.

BUT, i will say that any title with DTS will sound better than most. i definitely prefer it over all other movie audio formats. i lot of discs are being 'remastered' in the DTS format for the 'collector' or 'anniversary' disc. so make sure you look close at the store, or when you shop on line.. to me, it makes all the difference in the world.

I liked both XMen movies more than the Matrix sequels.

agreed!!!

the matrix series got progressively worse.. the 3rd was downright unbearable to watch.. its a shame they started so strong, and just ruined it with tooooo many effects.
