I recently bought a cheap Apex tv for my room and it had S-video which I thought was all that I needed, but I looked and found out that there is only one audio output. So I only get sound out of my left speaker. Is there any way to remedy this? I didn't know they still made mono tv's anymore. Would a Y splitter work?

yes it would work, but you wouldnt get true stereo seperation.it would just be a mono signal going to your left and right inputs, its definetly better than just one speaker

Hello Player8,

Hope you are well. If you have the TV hooked up to your stereo, wire the mono out from the TV to video 1 right channel , then use an RCA patch cable from the Tape output right channel back to the video 1 left channel input, this will give you mono output to both channels with the receiver set to Video 1.

Later,

TonyM

I hope I don't sound stupid by asking this, but what is a RCA patch cable?

Nothing fancy, just a cable with a regular RCA jack (the one used for pretty much all audio/video cabling) at each end. Every cable you have except speaker wire is probably an "RCA patch cable"...

I tried the advice, but I used VCR1 because my video 1 and 2 are component inputs. Did the tapeout thing and I still get hum in either the left or right speaker (whichever input I switch to, right or left). I can't think of anything else to try. I don't understand why the splitter didn't work. In theory, I should be getting a mono signal to both channels.

I have to do this with my VCR. The speakers only work when using it's tuner, but it is not hifi, so I split the mono signal and get mono in both speakers. I don't care too much about it for TV, so I'll live with it for now. Movies on the DVD is really where I want the good sound.

Are you also using a VCR? If so, is it stereo? Why not use the tuner in the VCR and just use TV as a monitor?

No I'm not using a VCR, but I can get one this weekend. Will it degrade the picture quality? I already have my coax running through my Belkin. My might even have to run it through a splitter as well because my roommate and I are having differences of opinion. I really don't want three interferences between my TV and inwall. Ah hell, it is probably better than listening to only left channel TV...
