hey all --

the last thread got so big I figured I would start over. Anyway, I bought the analog SPL meter from radio shack today (they say they still make it, had 5 in stock). Anyway, the options for db are in increments of 10 so I calibrated my system at 80db, is that o.k? My settings ended up as follows;

fr +9
fl +9
sr +5
sl +7
cc +7
sub 00

I set my M40ti to "large" and have the HSU-VTF2 crossover at 60Hz with the volume at 10:30 on the dial. Whith all set to small my Marantz crossover was at 100Hz and I could locate the bass sound at times, it was driving me crazy.

Anyway. do those calibrations seem normal. At first I calibrated to 70db but had to listen to movies at +3 to +5 volume level. At 80db I listen at -5 or so.

Any thoughts?

If:

1. When each individual test tone is played each speaker is at 80 db

2. You are not overdriving your amp

3. You really like the way your system sounds

Then:

4. SIT BACK AND ENJOY !!!!

Is there any difference in calibrating at 70db or 80db? Othere than it being louder at 80db that is. Is one better for the amp? Both settings sound about the same, the only difference being what volume the amp is up to when I listen (00db when calibrated to 70db and -10db when calibrated to 80db).

BTW, I used the analog RS meter and the S&V disc. The disc calibration chapters were great, I skipped over the rest. The sub crossover chapter was extremely helpfull.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who sent advice and helped my get this thing set-up, it was more confusing than I anticipated, but well worth it!
