XLR (which is a type of balanced interconnection) uses two grounds instead of one to raise the signal to noise ratio. Theoretically it raise the SNR up to 6 dB, but I doubt it really is anywhere near that significant if there isn't a problem with the signal such as a hum or something similar.

Great pics, Jag! Thanks for sharing and congrats on your new EP500!!!

Just curious: What was the lead time for the "flawed" unit anyway?

DZ_Gillespie you're most welcome and thanks. Half the fun is in the sharing.

I ordered on the phone so I don't remember the exact date but I believe it was 13 days only. I do think I totally lucked out though as when I ordered it they said they couldn't give me an expected time but they would try to get it to me with my QS8's which had a 12 week wait. They also said that there was a long wait list for A stock so getting a B stock could take a good while.

I'm still waiting for the rest of my factory outlet speakers so I'm running the sub with just some mission bookshelves. I am very impressed by just how much better even these bookshelves sound with the addition of the sub. Its definitely a HUGE upgrade to my system. I'm likely going to go into cardiac arrest when I get the rest of them.

When I get the rest of the speakers and everything setup optimally I will try my hand at giving a review, hopefully with lots of pretty pictures...

I'm totally sold on Axiom simply from my experience with my EP500. So far the EP500 has been absolutely awesome and I'd recommend it to anyone! Without hesitation, it takes complete and absolute command of the low end at any listening level. It always sounds tight and clean with no distortion at any volume I've tried and I've tried really LOUD. I love the fact you don't have to worry about overdriving it, due to the internal DSP control. I also love its looks. To me most subs are just plain looking boxes. The 500 is definitely not that. Its one beautiful looking "air piston" and its alot of fun to watch the 12" driver strutt its stuff. The EP500 simply dominates and destroys the low end and yet is incredibly musical and blends perfectly with the bookshelves. I'm just one guy with one opinion but I think Axiom has some killer subs on their hands with the EP500 and EP600 and these will definitely keep the competition on their toes. What can I say... I'm head over heals in LUV!

Thanks again, Jag
