Deep respect to all of you here!

I have been reading Axiom boards for a few months with great interest. Definitely picked up a lot of useful info about HT setup, speakers, receivers and players.

I am looking for a DVD player that can play MP3s. Well, I have one already but some important features are missing. Here is the list of features that I would like to see in an ultimate MP3-compatible DVD player:

- play DVD-MP3 disks
- support long filenames for MP3s
- support MP3 tags (optional but desirable)
- have random/shuffle MP3 playback feature
- show scrolling artist/song name on the player's front panel display (optional but VERY desirable)

My last try was Pioneer DV-578A. Very nice GUI but extremely sensitive (picky?) in terms of disk standards compliance. I had to return it.

Right now I am using Philips DVP642 and quite happy with it except for the lack of the above mentioned features.

Does one exist at all? Am I asking too much for a piece of hardware?

Oleg

I put far more thought into the audio / video portion of the DVD player but if all you want is something that can do MP3's and the odd movie there are tons out there. Almost any of the Denon's will do what you want and you won't give up anything with the audio / video side of things.

.........................or just hook a computer up to your set-up and go to town. I can sit in front of my TV and scroll through Winamp etc. Song title is displayed and more or less everything else I would ever need to know.

This sounds like a bit of a rare bird of a player your looking for. I don't know of anything off the top of my head that can do everything listed...

I have found that very often its the cheaper players that seem to offer the most in flexibility of format and disc types.

The Apex players and Norcents in the past have been very good for this kind of thing and very upgradeable.

I'd suggest browse around Nerd.out and ask some questions there. The people there love moding their players to do all sorts of wonderful things and I'd bet they could likely point you in the right direction for a player of the kind you want.

If you can afford it the computer idea really would be the ultimate for now and for the future as its easily upgradeable. You'd also beable to play with some of the High Definition Windows Media content currently available.

Good luck and let us know what you find, Jag

Thanks Jag!

I guess I will spend some time researching Nerd-Out forums. It seems like a hot topic on their DVD-MP3 forums.

575 seems to be a good choice but no DVD-MP3 support.

Well, I guess I have to wait for a couple of more years.

Sigh...

Thanks everyone for help!
