very interesting, Ian needed 2 hours to break in while Alan dismissed it as myth, so who should we believe, Ian or Alan? :-)

Time to start another poll...

I may not be helping, but it's not honest to only present data from your side of things. That's what lawyers do.

The way I read it, Ian's response of running each speaker for two hours was more of a quality control thing...

Pmbuko, maybe I ought to call out Ian and have him lay down more inputs, poll probably won't cut it as we all had already went down that road. ;-)

Mark, true...but I'm wondering if Ian think it would improve or change the way these speakers sound afterward.

They test every speaker at the factory, AFAIK. Therefore, they come broken in, if breaking in happens during that 2 hour process Ian describes. Therefore, you don't need to break them in! QED.

Since it's not going away, I figured I'd just throw that in...

hmmm...yea, the question was, during that 2 hours period of breaking in or testing in the factory, did the sound improved or changed?????

Without doing the whole testimonial and "look at this thread" thing, the only thing you are really breaking in are your ears and your brain. I think Alan gently walks folks down that path and I agree with him. Sorry Ken - I just couldn't help myself.

Break....in....thread........must....not....post....no good can come from it....

Can we agree on this :

- some people think the speakers sound a bit harsh when they first set them up
- after a few hours (sometimes more but not often) the harshness seems to go away and the sound is real good
- honest men differ on what is actually happening

I briefly had an old and new VP100 side by side AND FORGOT TO COMPARE HOW THEY SOUNDED until the new one had... um... broken in. STUPID STUPID STUPID.

John - an elegant, thoughtful and all-encompassing answer. My plan now is to step quietly away from this thread in the hopes the madness doesn't ignite.
