Hello,

Well I have decided to pull the trigger and order a set of Axiom speakers. I am building a new HT system, which will mainly be used for watching movies (me) and for music (the wife). I will add which speakers I am ordering to the bottom but I have a couple of questions.

First, I notice that there are lots of posts on HSU and other subs (other than Axiom), I am curious what your opinions are about the Axiom subs. I am ordering the EP350. I have read numerous posts about how much everyone enjoys their Axiom speakers, not many about the subs.

Second (this has nothing to do with speakers, sorry if this question is posted in the wrong part of the forum.) I will be buying a new receiver soon, since I let the smoke out of the old one. I am looking at the Onkyo TX-NR901, the Denon AVR-3805 or the Harman Kardon AVR 7300. Of the 3 I think that the H/R is built the best, but I don’t like that it is not THX certified. With the Denon and the Onyko it’s a toss up I guess.

I am ordering the following speakers. M60 mains, EP350 sub, QS8 surrounds, VP150 center.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I wouldn't put too much into THX certification. The HK is probably the most powerful, but the Denon 3805 is very highly regarded (not to mention it looks very sexy). I'd recommend the Denon or HK

Hey DelD, that's an excellent system you've choosen, very similar to mine, and I"m sure you'll be very happy with it.

If you search the forum a bit you should find quite a bit of mention between Axiom, HSU, and SVS. All are excellent however, many here find the HSU or SVS to offer a bit more price/performance value for the American customer. For Canadian customers there is less of a difference in this regard. The Axiom subs are known to produce very tight and clean bass and are most often described as musical subs. They definitely would be pleasing and would match the rest of the system. Do a search for a poster going by "Chesseroo" he did an excellent review between both his EP350 and an SVS sub and this should give a good idea of what difference to expect between these two. In short he thought the EP350 was best for music and the SVS was more appropriate for movies. Its a good read...

Good Luck and happy home theatring, Jag

Del, welcome. Those are three fine receivers, but my own weighting of features would lean to the 3805. You should also consider the 2805(or 985) which is very close to the 3805(e.g. no Denon link)and includes the microphone, but which costs significantly less.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

With Axiom's original sub line up (EP125, EP175, EP350) they simply didn't compete against the Hsu and SVS brands. From nearly all accounts, the Hsu and SVS models could out perform the Axiom subs at the same or lower cost. BUT...Axiom has seemingly taken that issue seriously and recently released a couple of monsters. The EP500 and EP600. Still too soon to say, but these bad boys are not looking to catch up to Hsu and SVS, but blow them away. Time will tell, they were just released recently. (I know I want one, and I'm a die hard Hsu supporter!)

Thanks to all that replied. I ordered the system today, Warm Cherry finish with white grills. Hopefully it will look as good I picture it in my head, LOL.

I am going to leave the receiver dilemma up to fate atm. I submitted the Denon and the H/K to Holiday Inn. I am using Holiday inn points to buy the receiver, so it depends on which one of them they are able to get.

Well I am off to look for a stand; hopefully I will not have to do as much research as I have with everything else. P

Thanks again for the input.
