This is the speaker hookup diagram for the Denon 3805. If I understand the diagram correctly, you can have two separate sets of surround speakers, in addition to the rear surrounds. I'm assuming this is so you could have QS speakers on the side for movies, and M22s , or the like, on the side for SACD/DVD-A.

What I understand about 6.1 and 7.1 (and I am far from an expert) is that they are mostly for very large rooms. If you think about a Theater they have many speakers on the side and back walls and why is this? Because theaters are very large and they need many speakers to provide a sort of "unlimited" sweet spot -- everyone has a good seat. So, if you have a very large room and a receiver that emulates 6.1 or 7.1 well, it is worth it. If not then it is probably better and cheaper to just use 5.1 especially since almost no DVD's are recorded in 6.1 or 7.1 and if/when this is commonplace you will probably want to buy a new receiver anyways. I would suggest trying out 5.1 and seeing if you are happy with the envelopment of the soundstage.

Again, I really have no working knowledge of 6.1 or 7.1 and only a limited knowledge of 5.1, mostly only what I've read on the internet, so don't take my word as absolute truth...

Above you'll see a 5.1 configuration. The remaining four can be used in a variety of ways:

- You'll notice that the pairs are labeled "Suround A and B" that's so you can use certain speakers for certain sources (as mentioned above). The pair on the very right are for either surround back (in a 7.1 setup), or for multizone (I like multizone ^_^).

So really you could have 9 speakers plugged in... 7.1, plus a pair of m22's or whatever just for music, THEN you've got the whole subwoofer on pre-out above and the fun goes from there .
