We have (had?) Bob's Big Boy here in Cleveland for years (20 or more), but I don't think they're around anymore.

However as far as stealing it from Shoneys, I don't think that's the case. When I was a child in the 1950s (moved to Cleveland in 1951) we had Manner's BIG BOY which later became Bob's. The family went there for dinner almost every week. Great burgers, and FABULOUS strawberry pie. Not a whipped pie, but a pie with real fresh strawberries in a thick strawberry syrup; a compote. A child's sugar delight!

I suspect the "Big Boy" label was franchised to various different owners around the country, Manners' Shoney's, etc., with each owner having his own "territory."

Google strikes again.

Big Boy History

Unfortunately, the above doesn't give a history of the franchising. I did, however, find there is still one Big Boy in Cleveland. The one nearest me, the one my family used to frequent, is long gone. Someday, I'll have to stop by to see if they still have that strawberry pie. I remember that sauce they used to put on the Big Boy too. That was pretty good. Had good, sesame seed buns, too. OH CRIPES! Now I'm hungry! Sheesh!

During my Google Search, I ran across the name Frisch's Big Boy. I lived somewhere, at one time, that had Frisch's. Maybe Columbus, OH, when I attended Ohio State. That sounds right to me. Shoot, that was only 40 years ago, why can't I remember for sure. DUH!

We had Frisch's in Orlando growing up. We saw Shoney's in places like the Carolinas. We always thought that Bob's was a yankee thing.

Hi,

I drove the length of the NY State Thruway last week and I'm sure I passed several Bob's Big Boy outlets. I recall thinking, What's that? They don't have Bob's Big Boy in Canada or Dunkin' Donuts (we have a burger chain called Harvey's).

I didn't stop to try Bob's. I went with Mickey D's warm chicken (grilled) Caesar salad, Paul Newman dressing. Not bad.

Alan, next time ya gotta stop and try a Big Boy Burger, and, if they still have it, some strawberry pie. YUM!

Disclaimer: Haven't eaten at a Big Boy in more than 20 years. They used to be pretty good. But then, Arby's used to be made out of real roast beef, too. Things have a way of changing. And, all too often, it ain't for the better.

Hey Curtis! Another Sherwood guy!

Hey Jack...Curtis knows that there is already another Sherwood guy in the group...ME!

I bought the Sherwood R-965 HT Receiver that was used for the Austin G2G. Blows my Sony completely away...the combination of it and the Axioms is amazing...not to mention it came with a rebranded MX-500 for the remote...have been so busy with work, trying to get all the paperwork and decisions made about the house as well as the holidays, that I have not been able to comment on this new addition to the family...

Got it from Sarah as an early birthday / Christmas present...

Will post updated pictures soon.

Could someone tell me which way is up?

Alan, next time you go by on the Thruway, stop for a meal and/or a beer. I'm 10 minutes off exit 45 (Victor, near Rochester) and I'd love to have you stop by.
