$20 for Doom3 at EB Games. I might have to finally buy it at that price.

Doom3 is good. HL:2 is better. I'd also recommend Vampire: Bloodlines which uses the HL:2 graphics engine.

I'd agree with that... Doom 3 WAS good, but it was not GREAT. Half-Life 2 is just excellent, a worthy sequel to my previously favorite FPS game (now the spot is occupied by HL2). I got it tuesday, and had it beaten by thursday. I just could not get away from the game. And about the engine: the Source engine is pretty nice. Very forgiving on older hardware. I was able to run HL2 at 1280x1024 with 4x AA and 8x aniso and stay at 50-70 fps for most of the game (only a few spots where many pixel shading routines are used did it ever drop below). That is something I cannot say for my 9800 Pro in Doom 3. I had to run that game at 1280, but without AA and only 2x aniso. While the graphics engine is technically inferior to Doom3's in practice the game HL2 looks better to my eyes. The facial animation, incredible textures used on the models, and the physics engine more than make up for the lack of fully dynamic lighting (which made Doom 3 so special). Now, though, we can't forget Counter-Strike: Source! That is a great 'freebie' that will hook you for years and it comes with HL2...

one thing about doom three that really annoyed me (I have not bought it, nor will i because I suck at FPS but my brother-in-law has it) was thbat you had to switch between your gun and your flashlight. I mean COME ON! Are you not supposed to be a SPACE MARINE? Don't you have any duct tape? Or, since it's x years in the future your trying to tell me that they have not yet invented guns with lights on them?

Is that a zombie? OK, I'll just shoot him... AH! Who turned the lights out?

Hehe - a lot of people didn't like the flashlight thing, but I felt that it added to the 'jumpiness' of the whole game. That combined with the incredible lighting made me scream at a few times when a zombie would pop out at me. It's funny you mention "duct tape" because there is a "duct tape" mod for the game in which you can permanently affix your flashlight to your gun. I'd never use the mod because it would kill so much of the mood.

Yeah, that was the only reason that I could think of as to why they made you use the flashlight/gun seperately. I remember playing the original doom and having the sh*t scared out of me. I liked the first HL a lot, as well.

I don't think that eitehr D3 or HL2 will run on my AMD750/Radeon 7200, unfortunately.
