What's everyone's opinion about which receiver sounds best with Axiom speakers? I'm trying to choose between Denon, Marantz, Onyko or Harman Kardon. My price range is between $500 - $800. I'm also looking at two different speakers for a home theater set-up. My room's 16X23. Would M22's, with a good sub do as well as M40's or 50's? I listen to 50% music - 50% home theater. Thanks for the input.

Car, if a receiver "sounds" at all with any speaker, there's something defective with it or it's being operated beyond its designed capabilities. An amp should merely amplify what it receives without adding audible noise, distortion or variation in frequency response. Buy the features you want at the best price you can get. Having said that, I do like Patch's suggestion of the 1803, which you can get for under $400U.S.

On the speakers, M22s plus a good sub would be excellent, a bit better than the M40s or M50s.

JohnK,

1803 definately seems like the new kid on the block to buy. However, JohnK, I'm curious where you say you can get it for < US$400. If you know of an authorized dealer that sells it for this price, please let us know. I am aware of some unauthorized dealers on the net where its listed as low as US $335 (+40 shipping) but all the authorized dealers i've seen have it for US$500 and up??!!!

I am new to the forum but have read all your comments and suggestions which have been very helpful. Soundpros.com is an online and instore authorized dealer of denon. their price for the 1803 is $410. I have bought from them without any hassles and they threw in cables for half price.

thanks for the tip....only problem is i don't think soundpro are authorized denon dealers either, i grabbed this from the denon.com website:

Authorized DENON Online E-Tailers:
GoodGuys.com

ListenUp.com

Sears.com (Limited Selection)

Crutchfield.com

Ovation-AV.com

6th Avenue Electronics.com

Abt Electronics.com (Specialty Audio Only)

Tweeter.com

Strangely enough, all these vendors have the 1803 for US$500...whereas all the other non-authorized online dealers have it for far less.....

what are people's opinions on the build quality of denon..because for approx CAD $200 cheaper you could get one (albeit without a manufacturer's warranty)...

I got my denon 1600 dvd from them. Came with denon warranty taped to the box. They have a 1-800 number if you want to ask first.

Part of "best price you can get" is not worrying about an authorized dealer.

I just bought a Denon AVR-4802 and couldn't be happier. It's absolutely beautiful.

Re: Authorized dealers. Make sure you can return it and call on the serial number. If it shows up fishy at all, Denon is likely to not honor the warranty.

FYI: I just purchased a Denon 3803 at 6th Avenue Electronics (at the store in NJ). They are offering the 1803 for $299! You might be able to get the same price from 6ave.com.

hi there,

are you sure about that 1803 price..!!!!! i checked the website and its listed as US$498 which is the normal list price for authorized dealers...??!!!

If i can get it for the price you mentioned that would be worth the risk of not having a warranty...im guessing you saw that price in-store??

thanks

follow up to my post above:

well folks while that 1803 price seems too good to be true, it actually wasn't....!!! i just got off the phone with 6ave and basically they had ordered a bunch of 1802's to selloff at $299 but there was some discrepancy and they had to sell 1803's at that price....this was a couple of weeks ago and was in-store only....however, as you'd expect, they're all sold out now....

if anyone sees this price around (or better!) please email me at 'tearglove@yahoo.com'

thanks vulture for the tip!
