I just got a pair of M22ti's to replace my twice refurbished 30 year old AR's. To say that the improvement blew me away is an understatement, even with my 30 year old AR amp!! I love these speakers. My problem is that having read the Axiom forums and newsletters, I want to build an HT system (much to my surprise)to get the concert hall effect. I would like some reccomendations on reliable, well-built receivers that will represent a solid value like the Axiom speakers (I realize this may be too much to ask). Funds are tight so I would want something with outputs from the preamp so I can add power later. My main purpose would be listening to acoustic folk music (old time and bluegrass) and jazz (primarily guitar).

Bob, glad to hear that you're enjoying your M22s. As long as it hasn't developed a significant malfunction your 30 year old amp should continue to be just fine for two channel stereo. For the type of music listening you do a HT setup might bring only modest benefits over straight stereo. As you may have noticed even some who have complete HT setups prefer to listen to music in two channel. However if for ambience effects in music and for movies you want to expand to HT, there are lots of good receivers at relatively low prices. It's probably more cost effective to get the receiver with amplification right now which you might eventually need rather than to get extra amps later and in part "throw away" the amps in the receiver. Two good 6 channel receivers that immediately come to mind are the Yamaha 5560 and Denon 1803.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

bobcox,

Both models of receiver previously mentioned have subwoofer pre-outs, so they should work well for you. Good luck.
