i dont think you "torqued" anyone off man.. its all good. i think people are just trying to give you explanations, and in fords case, the article he was refering to.

in general, every one in here is trying to help people out. but i can dig where the intent of your original post is coming from. i think you are mis-reading peoples responses as being combative.. i dont think there is any animosity at all.

Another thing to consider is that information provided here also triggers other thoughts ( I just ordered a Mega Canger for my CDs because of that phenomenon ). In many cases, while the poster doesn't necessarily have direct experience with something specific, they may have a model that is close. Also, most active participants are doing alot of reading in forums like this and the interent in general and details from other folks emerge and are shared. As long as the spirit of the information is to be helopful and you divide by whatever BS factor you feel comfortable with, the whole thing works reasonable well.

I agree, I too, attempt to "filter" out the jibber-jabber.......and, I saw your other post about "mega changers", but not having any information, or personal experience with one....I didn't reply.

But you need to remember that if someone has a "bad" piece of information, the only way they will be provided with the "correct" information is if they post what they believe to be true, and someone responds to correct them.

I also see a lot of posts that seemingly intentionally redirect the thread, and add nothing but increasing the posters posted count......someone once quoted "YAUP" yet another useless post - or something to that effect.

Anyway, we all have our own method of "filtering"...sometimes - in my case - I am mistaken for abandoning the board!!!

I like Ray's comment about "BS Factor".

When I was in college (before the Internet!), there was a guy in my dorm named Darryl. We had "The Darryl Formula" - of the things he said, about 25% you could believe, 25% you could kind of speculate on and 50% you should totally disregard. Of course, the hard part was figuring out which things fell into the 25% believable quartile.

I am also reminded of the old maxim that "If you believe everthing you read, you probably shouldn't read so much".

I try really hard to cite my sources, and craft responses that are clearly labeled as opinion rather than fact. And you know what they say about opinions....

No! Not that one, this one "Anybody can get the facts - having opinions is an art".

People need to be responsible for what they believe individually, and also consciously understand that the internet, including this forum, is just another public street corner. Credibility and trust are earned, not assumed. I hang out here for fun - if I wanted the truth, I'd go somewhere else.
