I recently bought a VP 150 after using a single M2 as a center speaker. Now I'm stuck with a single M2. Has anyone tried stacking an M2 on a M22. I'm now powering with an HK AVR 630, I don't have a room at the moment for a second zone, so am wondering about picking up another M2 for a zone 2, but maybe wiring it with my M22's to make a "hybrid" tower until I get a second room wired up. Anyone tried it-any thoughts?

I think Ken did something like that with a M50 and a M2. I can't remember whether it was actually wired up or not.

Oh, when we were testing the M50s vs the M22s, we had the M22s stacked on top of the 50s. It sounded good, but I probably wouldn't want to do that all the time. Someone else ran M22s+M2 awhile back...

I ran M2s on top of M60s when I was trying to figure out which one sounded "right" for vocals. The combination of the two sounded like the best compromise, but it mucks up your imaging a bit. I don't think I would want to do it with only one of the two channels though...

You have a 630, so you should be able to run 6.1 and IIRC there are some decoding modes which will matrix a 6th channel out of 5.1.

Why not stick the M2 in the back and see how you like 6.1 ?

[EDIT] When I was ordering Madeleine Peyroux's CDs I picked up Brothers in Arms and Ragpickers Dream at the same time. Just heard the intro to Money for Nothing on Axioms (M2s + sub) for the first time. Dang !!

I should have given a little more detail in my initial post. I intend on picking up another M2 from the FO and using that eventually in a second zone. The second zone won't get set up for some time so in the interim I'm curious about using the M2 stacked on the M22. The idea of utilizing the M2 as a rear interests me. I've got the issue of my room layout to contend with. My sweet spot is on a sofa which sits right against the back wall of the room-9 feet from the tv, m22's, and VP150. The surrounds (qs4's) are by necessity also mounted on the the back wall. I could easily mount the rear between the surrounds. The surrounds are about 12 feet apart and approximately 7 feet up on the wall. Does anyone have any idea what a rear speaker mounted directly above the sweet spot (especially an M2) will do in a system like mine? What role does the back speaker in a 6.1 mode play? I'll probably give it a shot just out of curiosity. I appreciate all your input.

Mike, you can certainly put the M2 up there as an experiment, but it may add very little. Back surround speakers are significant when there's room behind the listener for there to be a "back". Considering your seating and the position of your QS4s you're probably doing about as well for surround sound as is possible.
