I wanted to get the forum's opinion on whether putting the M60's on speaker stands would take anything away from the sound? The way my basement is setup, If I lift the speakers off the ground by 12 inches, then I would have the tweeter at the right level. My couch is close to the front speaker and I think I might be missing out on sound.
I found a set of stands at Partsexpress that are 12" tall. The dimenions are 8 3/4 x 9 3/4. The speakers are 15" deep though, so I don't know if they will work or not.
Any advice on this subject would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

A couple forum members have put the M60s on short stands and found it improved the sound. One of the most effective tweaks you can do is place the speakers so thet the tweeters are at the same level as your ears.
Here's a link to a post by Ajax, who built stands for his speakers.

I had my M60's on stands for a short while. I liked it. Looked odd, but I felt the upper bass cleared up a little bit. (thought even on the floor I think the M60's have some of the clearest bass I've ever heard in a tower speaker)
It certainly won't hurt the sound.

Jack-
Do you have any close-up photos of your M60 stands that you can share?

NO!
I'm in "curmudgeon mode" this morning.
I built them before the M60s arrived, and I've always meant to repaint them with a glossy finish to match the M60s, but I've always been able to find an excuse to do something else.
Not being much of a carpenter, I was always fairly proud of these risers, even though no two sides are perpendicular or parallel to each other . UNTIL! A guy over at the av123 forum posted pics of the ones HE built. I may never post pics of mine again.
I didn't feel so badly when I learned that they were made by a forum member who just happens to be a custom cabinet builder.

Thanks for the input, now I just have to find a pair of stands that will hold the speakers.
Any suggestions on retailers?

Well as you alluded, the trick is going to be finding stands that are wide enough, and deep enough, to hold the M60s with stability.
I haven't looked, but you can start here, and here.
Do a goolge search for "speaker stands" and you'll come up with a ton of placees that offer stands.

I measured and figured out that 8" stands would be perfect. But, I found these: http://www.standsandmounts.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=659
They are 6" tall, but have a wider platform to place the speaker on.
Any thoughts on these?

I just got done checking out Circuit City, Best Buy, and HHGregg and neither of them had speaker stands that will do the job. I just hate spending that much money for speaker stands. At the same time, those are the only ones with a large platform area. It is not the same size as my speakers, but it is 12", so there would be minimal hangover.
Has anybody purchased items from this retailer before?

I ended up going with a pair of stands from "standsandmounts.com" They are the Lovan Jazz600 and they are 159.00! They just look to be the sturdiest of any stands I saw. I found a website that makes custom stands, but I didn't feel it was necessary to spend 440.00 on custom stands. Now, does anybody on this forum make custom stands or know of a more affordable place to purchase custom stands? Should I be worried that my speakers will not fit on those stands flush?
Thanks!

I had Axiom custom make stands for me. They're called the 350 something or another.... and I guess they really make quite a few of them for some other use.
It's the first speaker stands I've seen that plug in!

Cool. Another few years and I guess they'll be making digital speaker stands.

I have also thought about the 6" stands you purchased. Please post a follow up once you have received them. I am especially interested in the stability of the M60s sitting on these things. How do they look with the M60s on them? Can you post a photo?

They are coming all the way from California, and they should get here either today or tomorrow. If they don't come today, I don't think I will get them until Monday. I am going out of town Sunday morning and I will not be back until next Sunday.
Then, I will be more than happy to post pics.
