When an external amp is hooked up to a reciever are the balance and tone controls bypassed, or are they still usable? thanks.....Pat

Hi Pat,
None of the controls are bypassesd. I can't speak for all receivers though. The receivers that I've touched have never had a bypass issue. Is this a good thing?

My next big move will be to try to get more power to these paradigm 40's and I wondered how that worked. For the first time using an external amp maybe it will be a good thing to have that ability to tweak the sound.

Pat, if a receiver has pre-outs to drive an external amp then the same signals go to the external amp as would go to the receiver's internal amps, including any processing such as tone controls, etc.(this all takes place before the pre-outs).
