Hey, I don't want to discourage you from experimenting. Yes, it could change some characteristics. Have fun. Years ago, I had a pair of huge coffin-like transmission-line subwoofers that I built. The drivers, on the top baffle, faced upward. My cat at the time liked to curl up on top of the sub. Her long fur covered the port and part of the driver. Somehow the bass sounded "tighter" but I think she just got off on the vibration!!
