Has any Axiom owners tried fine tuning their speakers by filling the bass ports with different length straws to change it's frequency? If so, did it help any? I can't find any specs on the port length so this may/may not help any given room placement, etc.

get a flash light and a ruler or tape measure, stick in in the port and measure it simple as that!

I can't believe that if this will truly improve the sound Axiom or any speaker manufacturer would have already incorporated it in their design. I would assume that since you will be effectively blocking the ports, it could degrade instead of improve its performance.

Let us know your findings and we might benefit from it or affirm my assumption.

Well...straws are hollow so it wouldn't block them.

I trust axiom knows more about acoustics than I do. No straws for me thankyou.

No question they do, they are in the speaker business. On DIY sites they recommend that as a way to tune your speakers that might be affected by placement or room acoustics. Just a suggestion.

Haven't done it myself (maybe I'll go straw shopping and try it tonight and report the findings tomorrow) but some of those tweaks cost next to nothing so why not.

But wait, those people at TNT, they build Belden based cables and recommend gazillion dollar ICs, they're up to no good. THEY are selling snake oil

See how much clearance you have first, then I'd start around 7-8" if possible, and work down from there. Fill the port with straws reasonably tight. Like I said it could help with speaker placement if your looking for a little more bass extension. I read this tip on a DIY site about tuning your port. Of course shorter than your existing port will do no good at all. If your like me, an old hot rodder, your always looking for free/cheap ways to go faster, or in this case sound better.

The port on any properly designed subwoofer is already tuned correctly. If you want to do some "tuning" of your sub, try moving it to different locations in the room--corners, along the wall, etc. (or moving your listening seat).

The room--the "forgotten component" as an old friend called it--makes a huge difference. It's responsible for at least 50% of the sound and performance of a subwoofer because they work together or fight each other, depending on the sub placement and the dimensions and shape of a specific room.

I agree room position is more important, but we don't always have that option. So it could change some characteristics without being able to move the equipment.
