hello, well as some of you know i got some M80's a week ago. and as i think about it, when i am playing music and just fooling around in my room its very noticable how unless you are in the sweet spot the sound isint as good. for me this isint a real problem but can be kina annoying because i do like to play music when im doing other things in the room. the only thing i can think of are the tweeter focuser things on the tweets. maybe alan can explain how the m80s sound with the tweeter things cut off. my guess is they will have better off axis sound. am i the only one that notices how directional they are?

If you're talking about that little plastic cross, it's just there to protect the rather fragile tweeter.

What you are experiencing is the cost of having good speakers. It happens with all high notes on all speakers, but crappy ones put out so little precise sound and so much garbled junk that you don't notice it.

ive read that ANYTHING in front of the tweeters degrades the sound. so if its only there to keep fingers out they should make it removeable or send like different faceplates that dont have the cover for us people who want the best sound and know better than to touch drivers (patchwork!) and dont have any people around that would.

Brandon, my understanding is that the disc in front of the tweeter dome actually AIDS the dispersion. Ian or Alan might be able to discuss this. The NRC measurements indicate that the tweeter used on the M80 and most other Axioms has very good dispersion.

Well if that plastic covering the tweeters is just there for protection and this is verified by someone at Axiom, I for one would be willing to remove mine and report on the sound.

Can it be removed in a fashion that would allow you to replace it easily? I don't have my speakers handy...
