Maple with black grills -- the flash really whites 'em out. I'll try to post a picture with normal room lighting.

Now that I have a full set of Maple, I'm really starting to like Mansfield Beech. Just like I recommend Denon then buy HK

Whatfurrer -

I have the maple with white grills. Check them out here. They are shown here on off-white, slightly (very lightly) tan walls.

EDIT: G*damnit, why can't link to pictures in the post? Here are the links to photobucket:

pickard- i remember the first time you posted those pics and i thought, "man, that looks totally cool and modern". i would have NEVER thought i would like the white grills on maple, but seeing it on the walls sure changes my mind. those really look fabulous.

i think it also helps that they blend with the modern decor you have going on. i reckon in my rustic ranch/log cabin looking living room, they wouldnt look quite as good. but, in that room, they are splendid!

Thanks. Your kind words really stroke my ego in such a satisfying way. I was definitely going for as discrete a look as possible back there. Since I took those pictures, we've had some more time in the house, and have put up some wall decorations/shelves/pictures etc. in the rear, which helps to minimize their presence further.

But, you're right, the look is definitely not for everyone.

Capn,

Did you order those "custom" to get the white grills? Or did they allow you to purchase them that way through regular channels...I was thinking about going FO for the QS8's but not sure now. I really like the way they look...I am sure my wife would prefer them to be as "invisible" as possible in the new house...

The wall color is something called "Roasted Almond"...basically a variation on cream.

Capn_Pickard,

Just wondering how the QS8's sound the way you have them on two adjacent walls (assuming you only have those two). I was under the impression you needed to have them approximately equidistant from the main seating position (on the same wall or on opposite walls). Or does it not matter with the QS8's? Do you have more than two surrounds in your setup that aren't shown in that picture?

Thanks!

i am sure the capn can answer this on his own, but i was just gonna say the quad-polar design of ther QS8's make them extremely versatile. even if they are not placed in the "perfect" position, they will still produce sound on a very even and accurate level. they allow for less than ideal positioning.

Capn, please confirm...

steve- be careful when picking out those wall colors.. when we painted our living room, shannon picked out a beautiful color called avalon beige. it was a light creamy brown, with slight hints of light orange and red..... when we got it on the walls and the sunlight hit it, it looked PINK. yes, PINK. i have no idea why that color seems to haunt me.

anyway, all is better now that we have covered it up.. but a costly and timely lesson we learned.

PAINT WITH CAUTION!!!

Ironic that you mentioned roasted almond as your wall color. Yesterday I helped my mother paint the family room wood paneling with olympic paint. The color was "toasted almond".
