I am going to be purchasing some Axiom speakers within the next week or so and had a quick question about the M60ti and the M80ti.

My Denon AVR-5700 says it will handle speakers down to 6 ohms. This would rule out the M80ti speakers. But I see some people on these forums with Denon recievers using the M80ti speakers. I was looking for opinons on weather the M80's would work on this reciever or if I should stick with the M60's. The M80ti is 4 ohms and the M60ti is 8 ohms.

Is there a significant sound difference between the M80's and the M60's?

I am also planning on purchasing a set of QS8's (6 ohms) and a VP150 (6 ohms)

Thanks for any advice anyone can offer me on this.

Also another quick question I was thinking of purchasing some of Axiom's terminated speaker wire and was a little confused on the spade-lug termination sizes. I don't see how these would fit onto the back of my reciever. It looks like it will only accept banna plugs or direct wire inputs.

Any advide on this would be helpfull also. Thanks again!

the denons CAN handle the 4ohm load of the 80's with no problems. in fact, the resident axiom expert(alan), often recommends denon receivers with the 80's.

the only main difference between the 60's and the 80's is overall volume. the 80's will go LOUDER than the 60's, but the overall sound and presence of the speakers are very similar. i know the 80's can be somewhat finicky in placement, and can need lots of adjusting around to get them sounding perfect. unless you are putting the system in a very LARGE space, then i would think the 60's will be more than adequate. my HT room is 26x28x8, and my 60's fill it completely.

the VP150 and QS8's are great speakers. BUY THEM!!! you will be very happy with them.

do you have any intentions for a sub? gotta have that for the true HT experience. the new EP500 is supposed to be awesome. i am still saving up for it!

cant say much on the axiom speaker wire, i have never seen it. but, some basic 12/14 gauge speaker wire at home depot at $.30 cents a foot works very well. speaker wire is one of those deals where you can spend as little, or as much as you want, and you are gonna get pretty much the same stuff. copper wrapped in plastic. there is very little difference between the high price stuff and the normal priced stuff. it comes down to personal preference.

The main difference between 60s and 80s is supposed to be that the 80s are able to play louder and fill larger rooms. The sound quality is apparently pretty similar although the M80s have a bit more deep bass.

Denons and HKs are the two brands recommended for use with M80s. Neither is spec'ed for 4 ohms but both brands tend to handle 4 ohms well. I don't know about your specific model but someone else might know...

The speakers all have 5 way binding posts. If you unscrew the post a lot you can fit bare wire in -- if you unscrew them a little spade lugs fit just fine. Not sure if there is a good picture on the site but they will work.

My room dimensions are 14' wide by 22' long with 8' ceilings. I am running M60's and they are plenty loud enough. I have to leave the room if they are really cranked, however they sound incredible!
I found them really easy to position which leads me to believe that the placement characteristics of the M80's might be more of a challenge for you?
Good luck with your project!

You're Denon would do fine with the M80s.My only concern would be if you were to put the 80s on the long wall you might not have enough room from the listening position to the speakers. If you were to have them on the short wall then you could go with the M80s.The 80s are not all that hard to place IF ya have the room to do so.There has been a couple people that could not get the placement right for what ever reason but it seemed they didn't have the room to place them right.....ie to small of a room.I have mine in a room that is 15x20x7.5 an I have not had any problems. If your iffy about having enough room to fit the M80s then opt for the M60s as Im sure they too sound fantastic.

I agree with Wid here.
Placement shouldn't be an issue unless you are going to be installing the M80's in a small room.
