Hello,

My denon avr 3803 is rated at 110w/channel at 8 ohm impedance. I recently purchased M60Ti, QS4, VP100 speakers since they are also rated to run at 8 ohm impedance.

For the past few days, I was wondering if I should change to M80Ti (impedance 4 ohm), QS8 (impedance 6 ohm), VP150 (impedance 6 ohm) .

Are there any problems (or special considerations to be taken) to run 4/6 ohm impedance rated speakers with an 8 ohm rated receiver (Cables ? Power output ? Clipping ? or anything else ?)

Any advice / experience is appreciated.
Thank you
Regards

Hi vivek,

The Denon 3803 should be stable driving 4-ohm loads without protection circuitry limiting its output. Check the owner's manual for information on driving 4-ohm speakers. The M80ti's will draw more current, so the receiver's output section must have suffucient cooling to dissipate the heat generated. (See my posts elsewhere on impedance and power ratings of multichannel HT receivers.) Denons are usually okay with 4-ohm loads, but many modern receivers don't like 4-ohm main speakers and may limit output or shut down. Even if they have a rear-panel switch labeled "4 ohms", that may still impose current limiting so the amp section doesn't overheat.

The 3803 will work fine. It's a good choice.
