I have recently bought an entertainment armoire. It's solid oak so there is no modifying it's dimensions (my wife would kill me) and there is a shelf at the top for a center channel speaker. it's only 5.5 inches high....yikes...i know.

I pose to you with this question.

Will the axiom vpzero be enough for a 18x18 room? The placement and height restrictions are non-negotiable (per wife)

all suggestions considered on what speaker will fit. I plan on using axiom m3ti up front. maybe q8's in the back, if I can talk the boss into letting me get those

Get a 150 and set it on top of the armoire. If you wife doesn't like it, divorce would be preferable to sacrificing HT.

Well, the bose vs10 (or something like that) probl. will fit there, but they sound no better than a cheap-o tv speaker. I have one of those , it kinds of 'blends' with the room but when I hear it for the first time I thought I had been robbed. ...my wife like it, tho... so I keep it ;->

My advise is to claim a room of the house/apt your own. Where you can do whathever you like with it and dont worry about 'matching pillows'... I already have 'my room', I use it for my keyboards & computers and cello practice. So that leaves the HT room in her domain.
You have no idea on how hard it takes me to convince my wife that those 'minicubes' speakers are not ideal for music

JaimeG,
I don't know how large your house is but i have to say, unless it is a two room place, i think you're getting the short end of the stick.
A man needs at least 3 rooms to be his own, his office, his tv room and the cr_pper.
Anything less than that just isn't workable.

Function over form, function over form.

Sometimes things just show up at the front door. Just don't forget to stop by the flower shop on delivery day.
I have my center channel on top of the cabinet as well, just tilted slightly down. My wife didn't want a HT setup, and still complains that I spent too much money, but she does like the sound. I bought a reveiver Onkyo NR-900, M80's, QS-8's and a vp-100 (just switched to the VP-150 tonight) all on the same day. She exploded, but I've been telling her for years I'm going to. When I told her I'm sending the 100 back for the 150 she just asked how much more. I've already told her I still need a sub and 1 more set of QS-8 for the back.
I don't know how to break it too her that I want to delete the Oak ent. cabinet and redesign the basement. Maybe I'll wait until this summer.

Chess hit the nail on the head. My brother once told me that the only place he gets any peace is while on the throne (wife and 4 daughters).
