I was pokin' around on the internet yesterday and was looking at some Definitive Technology speakers with the built in amplifiers and 12" "sub" built in. It would be nice if Axiom would come up with something like that. Not necessarily the bipolar desigign, but definitely the built in sub. I bet axiom could make a great speaker based on the drivers they are already using. Imagine the amplifier and driver from the EP 600 combined with the a bigger M80/M60 type speaker. Probably could not fit all those drivers from the M80 in there, but maybe more like the M60 driver configuration. I like my subwoofer but I would prefer to have 2 floorstanding speakers that would produce a more even "bassfield", I have had problems getting even bass in my room. If they would make something like that I would start saving today! I really like my M80's, but I am sure I will be ready for some new speakers in a couple of years anyway. Since I am already at the top of their line, it would be nice if there was room to grow. I would like to see Axiom add a new speaker with a little(or a lot) more bass for all of us bassheads out here. Has anyone heard of any new products coming out anytime soon? Seems like most of their speakers, except for the new subwoofers, have been around a couple of years now. Maybe now is a good time for some new "groundbreaking" stuff to come out. I wonder if anyone else out there would be ready to fork over some more dinero for a real "flagship" speaker. I know Axiom offers great speakers at a good price, but I would like to see (and hear) another level to step up to from Axiom. Does anyone else agree?

It would get expensive...

Maybe the amp and DSP could be shared between the speakers... only one more set of wires.

I guess the M60 and M80 are deep enough to have a 12" driver mounted on the side. Wouldn't the box need to be quite a bit bigger to support the sub ?

I was thinking of an all new enclosure, I am sure it would need to be bigger in all directions. But even so, I would still prefer to have two large tower speakers that take up a little extra room as opposed to having to make space for the sub. Although it probably wouldnt go as low as a dedicated sub, it would still be impressive.

Before I bought my Axioms, I was considering going with another Canadian speaker manufacturer called Athena Technologies.
Their SCT line of speakers had powered subwoofers that mated with conventional speakers.

http://www.athenaspeakers.com/athena-Classic-Products.htm

They had three classes in this line: entry, mid, and high range to suite different sound quality and budget.
They have since discontinued the line.

I am considering buying two subs (EP350/SVS) and using the high level subwoofer crossover with my mains set to Large.
I guess this would be termed "Stereo Subwoofers".
Buying two EP500s for a configuration like this would be cost prohibitive.

I don't think Axiom sees a market in a combined subwoofer/speaker, or they would be offering such a beast.

People have brought up this issue before, but from what I've gathered it is not such a great idea. I believe the main problem is that the best place for you to put your two main speakers for proper stereo seperation (ie, the magic triangle or something close) is NOT the best place to put your bass specific drivers. That spot often can be in a corner of the room, or some other location, maybe right beside your listening postion. If you're having eneven "bassfield's", you might just not have your subwoofer placed in the best spot. Also, having two subs locations very well might make your bassfield even more uneven, as the two sources would cause doubling of bass in some areas, and cancelling out of bass in others. (again, I would doubt that the best place to put two subwoofers would be anywhere near the best place to put your two towers)

]Actually I am getting the boot from the living/family room. The Wifey never came around to all the speakers in there. Sure glad I never ran the cables. I like the room because it is big, butt there is too much furniture in there. Wherever I put the sub there is a big chair or something else bottling it up. wish I had some pictures of it on this computer. Anyway I will be moving upstairs to the Game Room, more like the Crap No One Ever Uses Room. I will be moving from a 19x19 room with a bar that goes to the kitchen, a large opening to the dining room and a staircase behind the couch to a 12x16 room with about 10' ceilings that only has one door in and out in the back. I imagine the M80's will be plenty loud now! This is a picture of the room I am moving too. I had to steal it off the internet, from a realty site that is selling the same floorplan as my house. Looks Like this Cat had his own little theater in there.

I will be tranferring all the equipment up there as soon as I get a Big TV, about the size of the one in the picture. I am not sure how to get the sub up there, it weighs about 150lbs. Hopefully it will sound better without all that damn furniture to get in the way and mess up my sound. My TV will be in the middle of that wall on the end of the room with the speakers on boths sides of course The sub will go behind the couch against the wall in a corner.
In the family room there are no corners to put the sub in! The fireplace is in one and the rest have doors or openings to other rooms. Hopefully it will have a more even sound. Right now the bass is almost twice as strong from one end of the couch to the other. Of course you can geuss where i sit. This is another pic I got off the net of my living room, just to gieyou an idea of where my stuff is at now. I wonder if my room would that good if it was ever clean? There are no toys anywhere in site! Imagine that.

The quest for a new TV has been a real confusing affair, so much bullshit out there its hard to choose. I am about ready to go down to CC and just pick whichever one looks good and the hell with all the other crap. It will be used 90% for DVD's anyway.

Wow, what a great room. I ran the dimensions through ModeCalc and the results are really good with evenly spaced modes up to 150 Hz. The lowest "between the walls" mode is at 35 Hz (although I think you will get some reinforcement from the diagonals) so it's a good thing you have a 150 pound sub

Thanks for covering for me Bren . The whole wife concept is important and it's nice to know there is some back up.

Don't mention it. Threadjack: Speaking of sell the wife... we were looking at paint colours to finish the house today - me opting for natural, neutral tones - her for tones with pink in them.

Finally the Home Depot "paint clerk" (in quotes because next week, she'll be the resident expert on plumbing!) came up and asked if she could help. My response? "Depends, are you a marriage counsellor or contract killer?"

Flesh-tones have absolutely no business being painted on large areas. It gives the home an embryonic effect which results in a rapid retrogression of its inhabitants into thumb-sucking emotional wrecks.
