I'll bypass all the other troubleshooting we did, and just get to when we found the solution.

The EP175 is a heavy sleeper. When my wife was holding the remote, the little red light in back never picked up a signal, and we never got subwoofer interaction. When I was holding the remote, it would turn green, and we'd get the heavy bass.

The difference? Volume. She'd put the Denon at -40dbs, and I'd put it between -25 and -30. The EP175 would wake with a large enough signal...is that normal?

I've run into something kinda similar with my 3805 and EP-350, but sometimes I've gotta crank it to -25 db before it'll turn on. And this was Paul's Boutique, and album with pretty good bass! Sometimes I just go and pull the coax in the back, plug it back in,get the load humming noise ('cause invariably I've got the volume up) and magically there's bass again, usually pretty strong too. i looked in the denon manual and the manual for the ep-350 and i really didnt see anything to fix this. i suppose you could boost the bass signal sent to the sub from the reciever but that'd probably mess up your EQ curves and whatnot...

And the auto-off on the Axioms are one pretty big reason I went with a Hsu sub... defeatable with solid on and solid off. You can try pumping up the sub level on your receiver, send it more signal, and turn the pot on the back down... not the best solution, but beats the alternative.

Lon, assuming that there isn't a problem in the EP175 amp, the way to get enough signal to the sub to keep it awake is by way of the sub output level trim control on the 3805, not just by changing overall volume level. Increase the output level to the sub on the 3805(you didn't mention where you have it set)and to keep the same calibration for the sub level, reduce the level control on the sub itself a corresponding amount so that the sub doesn't get louder.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.
