I am happy with my setup, but you know ...... I think the term is "upgaditis", as heard and diagnosed on this forum.

Anyways to my question, 5.2 OR 7.1? Which would add the most punch to a home theatre? (by punch i mean noticible improvement not bass)

The two scenarios...

a) add a sub to my existing system possibly another 175 or 350.

********I was also wondering if matching my 175 with say a higher end sub (like the ep 500, 600, big SVS or Hsu) would totally knock the 175 out of the room? Or with they work well together?********

b) Add a couple more Qs-8s to the sides of my seating arrangment.

*****Or even move my qs-8s and put a couple of m22i's as rear surrounds. I know that a few of you have used the m22i's as rear surrounds. Have you heard Qs-8s and what made you go with front-firing rears?******

There are actually 4 scenarios here. This is obviously for finding peoples opinions, so any ARE appreciated!

TIA

Tough question to answer!

I have heard, but have never tried, that if you have two subs they should be identical models.

I think what it comes down to is ask yourself
"What I am lacking?"
Is it more bass or more surround ambient sound? If you have flat spots in your bass response, I'd say pick up another sub. If you find the ambient sounds are getting lost in the back, get more surrounds.

But remember, if you go to 7.1 you may have to upgrade your receiver and not DVD's are actually mixed in 7.1

Like i said, I am happy with my setup.... I was just looking for a fix for my "upgraditis".

How big is your room again ? I know it won't help much because a bigger room argues for a bigger sub but a bigger room also means you have enough space behind you to get some nice benefit from rear speakers.

Just stalling for time until I have something constructive to say, I guess

Right - it's not just the size of the room, but also the configuration. If you have considerable room behind you, going to 6.1 or 7.1 might make sense. If your listening position is already near the back of the room, it might not.

As others have pointed out, room size does make a differance, if you check my other posts there are pictures of my Axiom set up. Yes, I have 7.1 and using the EP600, and the system works very well. But I do have 10 ' - 12' of area behind my seating area. Once the amp issue is resolved, the only thing I have left in the speaker plan is perhaps a second EP600, other than that, the 7.1 system will have been worth the time and cost, at least for my listening preferences. Good luck, decison making is always fun.

My room is 20x14x8.5. I have Qs8's at the rear, mounted on the wall approx 7 feet high. They are on either side of a 7 foot door/entranceway. There is a recliner back there.

I have two couches facing each other (approx 6 feet separation) on the side walls.
On one side is a window, the other is a wall that opens to a hallway.
Then on the front wall are my M60's and the VP100. In between the FL-M60, and my TV is the EP175.

If you walled off the hallway and entranceway the room wouls be approx.20x14x8.5.
I already have rear surround speakers, I am just wonderin' if side surrounds would make more of a difference than a second sub.

Also if mixing two different subs is a no-no ( for example an EP 500/600 with my EP175). The room is a temporary HT room until my daughter goes off to university..... then the basement gets the makeover :^ D

One of these posts I'll actually have pictures
