Playing stereo cd there was very little sound from lf, rf, speakers.......all the sound drums,guitar,etc. in your face from the center speaker.

Where you listening to the CD in Stereo, Direct, or Pure Direct modes? It sounds like you had it in surround mode. When I listen to CD's I use Direct or Pure Direct mode, that way you are only using the sub and lf and rf speakers. I do enjoy 5channel or 7 channel or neo6 from time to time though...

It seems to me like neo6 takes the edge off bad recordings.
I cant bear to listen to Jack Johnsons first cd unless its in neo 6.

Tom, the result when playing a stereo CD is puzzling. Regardless of any auto-calibration or equalization, when a CD is played using the ordinary modes(i.e. those Randy described)the amount of sound in a center speaker should be zero. It's almost as if mono was selected somehow. The center speaker would still be silent, but the left and right fronts playing the same signal would form a "phantom" center for all of the sound. Also, if a surround mode such as DPLII was applied to a CD and the center width control was adjusted all the way to the middle, an effect something like that could result. Very mysterious.

I'm curious as to whick settings it got wrong on your 2500.
I did the auto set-up on mine this weekend, and just for giggles I did it several times to see how consistent it was.
To my surprise, it kept coming up with different measurements and settings. None were very far off, but each time it did indeed come up with a different setting for the distance of a couple of the speakers, and thus, different db settings for them.
Sound levels in the room vere consistent, and I stayed well away from the mic for all run throughs.
But it did, to my ears at least, do a pretty darn good job.
I'm going to play around with it some more this weekend.

I have never touched the center width control so its at factory default. Cleared the processor as mentioned and got back the sound we all love. Will try auto set-up again and see what happens. NO auto eq!

I have never seen this option on my 2805. How can I find it?

Brady, why I even mentioned the possibility to Tom was that since auto-calibration or equalization can't of course put stereo CD sound into the center speaker, Randy and I were searching for some explanation. At this point it's still unknown. The center width control refers to the use of DPLII or DPLIIx to vary the amount of source material appearing in the stereo channels in similar amounts which gets steered to the center speaker instead of forming a "phantom" center. At one extreme it all gets steered to the center speaker; at the other it all stays in the mains and the center speaker remains silent. This is described beginning on p.70 of the manual.
