Hey all, I have an opportunity to pick up a 5y/o JVC RX318BK Stereo Receiver (minimal use, supposed excellent cond.) for $50. I've been passively looking around for a cheap amp to add some more power to my mains and this, I guess, would fit that bill. My question to you folks is two-fold: Is it even possible to use this as an amp (I've never bi-amped b/f), and if so, would its added power be an appreciable diference in my setup (in 5.1 AND stereo)? I'm guessing it is possible by hooking up the L/R pre-outs on my Denon to one set of the L/R inputs on the JVC and then sending speaker wire from both units to my M60's, right? Anyway, I'm very interested in what you guys think, so LMK!
Thanks,

i have never been impressed with the results of bi-amping. so, to answer your question, NO, i wouldnt bother with it.

but, if the receiver has all channels working, for $50 bucks, that would be a great pick-up to maybe set-up a 2nd system. in the bedroom, den, maybe the garage? it never hurts to have a good back up unit.

just my opinion....

It's just 2-channel, and I'm not about to embark on creating another system anytime soon. Thanks for your opinion, bigjohn! Anyone else? Has anyone ever detected any improvements due to bi-amping, and if so, what did you notice?

I wouldn't recommend the JVC to try and biamp your 60s.IMO that JVC doesn't offer the quality amp section that you are looking for.Your Denons amp section is far better than that of the JVC.I would save my $50 and save up for good quality used amp.

Actually, I just came to that decision- I had a JVC receiver in the past that left a very bad impression on me (and many others that had the same model.) I was really excited about the idea of all that juice for my mains and didn't think enough about quality. Ahh, just an itchy wallet-finger, I guess.
Thanks, everyone!
